1"Hand In Hand" Congregational Event!!
January 11 12, 2003 Tanque Verde Lutheran Church
Four Keys of Faith Nurture in the home Caring
Conversation! Family Devotions! Family
Service! Rituals Traditions!
2What is the 4 Key Congregational Training all
about?
- It is about the partnership between home and
congregation. - Having each family at TVLC nurturing faith in
their home. - Giving each family the resources to help them
nurture their faith. - Learning about the 4 Keys and how they can work
within TVLC.
3Here is the background
Child In Our Hands Model Partnership
between home Congregation Passing on the
faith from generation to generation
Intentional faith nurture within the home
Equipping parents, volunteers, and all within the
church to be the primary faith nurturers in
the home Changing the way children learn about
faith
4Biblical Foundations
Deuteronomy 66-7 Hear, O Israel The Lord our
God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with
all your heart and with all your soul and with
all your strength. These commandments that I give
you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress
them on your children. Talk about them when you
sit at home and when you walk along the road,
when you lie down and when you get up. Proverbs
226 Point your kids in the right directions
when theyre old they wont be lost.
5What are the 4 Keys anyways?
6Caring Conversation
- Caring Conversations express an interest in
others, their hurts, their joys, their concerns
and dreams, their values and faith. - Caring Conversation requires time to be available
to listen and to speak. - Congregations are encouraged to help families
identify the holy ground of their lives where
precious, caring conversations take place.
7Family Devotions
- A devotional life is a way to practice the
presence of God through the word of God. - Many families and individuals need help with the
language of prayer and faith in daily life. - Family devotions connect the generations with
faith, hope and love in a world that speaks and
operates on a different basis than the Gospel of
Jesus Christ.
8Family Service
- Serving ones neighbor is the calling all are
given through the life and message of Jesus
Christ. - Family service projects have been shown to be a
vital way to pass on faith from generation to
generation. - Children and youth are greatly influenced by what
they see in the lives of others, especially
parents and other family members.
9Rituals Traditions
- Rituals and traditions are those patterns of
behavior that can be expected to occur on a
routine basis and communicate certain meaning in
life. - The way people greet one another each day, a
table grace, bedtime prayers, the blessing of a
Christmas tree, a birthday or baptismal
anniversary celebration are all examples of
family rituals traditions.
