Title: The Impact Technology Has On Learning
1The Impact Technology Has On Learning
- A Presentation by

- Scott Mitchell
- Randy Shoemaker
2- What is technology?
- What is the first thing that comes to your mind
when you hear the word technology?
3Outline
- How does technology enhance student achievement?
- Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow
- Effects of Educational Technology
4Outline
- Information Superhighway
- Multiple Intelligences and Multi-media
- Is technology making an impact on education?
5Basic Skills Instruction
- CAI
- Multi-media Software
- Videodiscs
- Video and audio technologies
- Distance learning
6Advanced Skills Instruction
- Interactive educational technologies
- Students learn to
7Assessment of Student Progress
- More comprehensive
- Assessments with active participation
- Electronic portfolios
8Student Motivation
- How does technology motivate students as well as
teachers?
9Success Seen in ED Study
- Improved scores on state tests
- Attendance increase
- Parent and teacher support
- Improved student retention
10Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow
- Also known as ACOT
- Launched in 1986 by Apple Computers, Inc.
11ACOT Findings
- Findings on teachers showed
- Children were able to
12ACOT Impact on Students
- There were many positive impacts on
students because of ACOT. Some of them include - Students became socially aware and more
confident. - They used technology routinely and appropriately.
- Students worked well collaboratively.
13Other ACOT Findings
- After ten years, several results related to
technology were found. - Technology as a catalyst
- Technology revolutionizes traditional methods
- Students become re-energized about learning
14Effects of Educational Technology
- In 1994, in a study done by the SPA, research
found that - Educational technology has a significant positive
impact on all subject areas - Technology makes instruction more
student-centered - Positive changes evolve over time
15The Information Superhighway
- A five year report( 1987-1992) done by the
Sacramento School District in California - A survey of 550 teachers who use
telecommunication technology
16Multiple Intelligences and Multi-Media
- Harvard University professor Howard Gardner
published a book in 1983 on multiple
intelligences and stated that seven or more
multiple intelligences exist in human beings
and are each of equal importance.
17Verbal/Linguistic Intelligence
- The verbal/linguistic intelligence involves the
ability to think, communicate, and create through
words both in speech and in writing.
18Logical/Mathematical Intelligence
- This particular intelligence involves the ability
to memorize and perform mathematical operations,
the ability to think mathematically, logically,
and analytically, in order to apply the
understanding to problem solving.
19Visual/Spatial Intelligence
- Includes the ability to understand the world
through what we see and imagine and to express
ideas through the graphic arts.
20Bodily/Kinesthetic Intelligence
- The ability to learn through physical
coordination and dexterity and the ability to
express oneself through physical activities.
21Musical Intelligence
- The ability to understand, appreciate, perform,
and create music by voice, instruments, or dance.
22Interpersonal Intelligence
- The ability to work cooperatively with other
people and to apply a variety of skills to
communicate with and understand others.
23Intrapersonal Intelligence
- The ability to understand, bring to
consciousness, and express ones own inner world
of thoughts and emotions.
24Is Technology Making an Impact on Education?
- Educational technology has demonstrated a
significant positive effect on achievement, in
all subject areas, as well as the attitudes of
the students.
25Impacts continued
- Integrating technology into the classroom has
also increased teacher/student interaction.
26Impacts Continued
- Computer-based classroom settings increased
interaction, both student/student and
student/teacher - Greater student cooperation when using CAIs
- Small group collaboration proved to be effective
27Remember
- Technology is everywhere, and integrating it in
your future classrooms can make the difference!
