have already mastered, you will never grow."
    Ronald E. Osborn

Why is technology so important in the classroom?
  • With a society that depends highly on technology,
literacy is a key component in using technology
efficiently. Reading and comprehension is a must
when using technology. It can also provide
skills in literacy that cannot be found in the
    regular classroom.

The Commonwealth of Learning
  • Commonwealth
  • The focus of the Commonwealth of Learning is to
reach people with literacy through technology.
Their goal is to accustom people to the written
word when it is almost impossible to use
technology without being able to read. This
website is not necessarily only for teachers.

9
  • Their focus is to inform the world how important
literacy is in an ever changing technological
world. On the website you have the option to
join the cause and many resources to back up
their project. The project, COLLIT, is the
    Commonwealth of Learning Literacy Project.

10
Linking Technology Through Literacy
  • Linking Technology
  • This website is provided by the Madison
Metropolitan School District to give teachers
ideas to linking technology in the classroom.
Their goal is to provide effective lessons to
help students learn. This website was comprised
by many authors for a diverse outlook on
    strategies.

11
  • This website provides material for only K 5,
however they have divided the difficulty levels
into three grade groups so teachers can better
assess the appropriate challenge level. Not only
does it give lessons, but how to publish your own
lesson on the site and even to make your own.
This is also critical to students who want to
publish there own work on the World Wide Web.

12
Literacy and Technology
  • Literacy and technology
  • This website gives teachers strategies with
combining literacy and technology in the
classroom. It gives many different websites that
teachers can use to find lessons and activities
that teachers can use to help students learn more
    effectively.

13
  • It also provides actual lessons used in the
classroom by other teachers. This page stresses
the importance of making literacy more effective
through the use of technology by proving links to
games and other multimedia that is interesting to
students to make them more involved in the
    learning process.

14
Technology in Literacy Education
  • Literacy Education
  • This website is about a special interest group
that focuses on technology in literacy education.
Their mission is to enhance the teaching of
literacy through technology. Also, they provide
support in achieving this in the classroom for
the teacher as well as the students.

15
  • You can become a member of this organization and
they also provide a newsletter to their members.
This website also provides awards and special
recognition they have received through this
project. They have pictures and brief
biographies of each officer in this group.

16
Center for Technology and Children
  • Center for Technology
  • The Center for Technology and Children rely on
their past projects for helping teach children
through media. The website has further reading
links that consist of some projects that they are
presently working on. One of these projects is
    called America Reads.

17
  • This project was created for literacy tutors to
volunteer and make tutoring somewhat easier
through activities listed on the site. It
provides skills for children at different levels
as well as personal support for the tutor. This
is just one project of many that this
    organization is involved.

18
Summary
  • All the websites that I have listed are very
beneficial. They all have many links to find
what you may be looking for specifically. All of
these websites have one thing in common and that
is to enhance teaching literacy through
technology. Each understands the importance of
combined technology in the classroom. Also, they
provide ways to reach the organizations for
    further interest and questions.
