- Workshop demonstrations are intended only as
examples of the new events. - Questions Policy All questions must be submitted
to the State Adviser. If the State adviser is
unable to answer, it must be submitted by the

3Definition
- Interior Design, an individual or team event,
recognizes participants who design interiors to
meet the living space needs of clients.
Participants write a profile of a three-member
family to serve as their clients and select a
floor plan. Participants design a furniture
arrangement, color scheme, and single wall
elevation for a living/dining room. Participants
must prepare a file folder, an oral presentation,
and visuals.

- Categories Senior grades 10-12 Occupational
grades 10-12 - Individual or Team Event
- Table will be provided.
- Electrical outlets available upon request through
the State Adviser. - Spectators may not observe.

6Procedures and Time Requirements
5 minutes Room Consultant and Evaluator review

- Participant will submit one letter-size folder
containing three identical sets, with each set
stapled separately.

9Project ID Page
- One 8 ½ x 11 page on plain paper with no
graphics or decorations. - The ID page must include-- participants name
(s), school, city, state, FCCLA national region,
and project title.
10Planning Process Summary Page
- One 8 ½ x 11 page(s) summarizing how each step
of the Planning Process was used to plan and
implement the project use of the Planning
Process may also be described in the oral
presentation.
11Family Profile Specifications
- Must be written in paragraphed narrative format
and must include the following - Explanation of how the clients meet the
definition of family - Names, ages, and individual incomes of family
members - Total family income per month
- Full or part-time work/education experiences in
which clients are involved - Individual interests and activities of each
family member.
12Presentation Boards
- Each participant or team will prepare two
presentation boards- - one to display a profile of the 3-member client
family - one to display the interior design intended to
meet the needs of the clients.
13Presentation Boards Specification
- Board background must be solid black or white
- Board size must not exceed 22x30
- Each board must have attached a standard size
business card for each participant or team member
with the following information participants
name (s), chapter name, school, city, state, and
FCCLA national region.
14Design Board
- May be drawn by hand or computer
- must show fixed architectural features and
furniture arrangements to meet clients needs - a scaled wall elevation in the chosen color(s)
for one wall - coordinate samples to represent wall and window
treatments, floor covering, fabrics, and other
elements, etc - cost itemization showing the sources, unit costs,
and total costs of all samples provided. - use a consistent ¼1 foot scale for the room,
fixtures, and furnishings - Attached standard size business card.
15Family Profile Board
- Must include
- One copy of the written family profile
- Photos
- Sketches
- Clip art and/or other illustrations used to
illustrate the personalities, activities, and
other living space needs of the client - Attached standard size business card.
16A Note About Presentation to Clients
- The Oral Presentation is a time for
participant(s) in the role of designers, to
present to the evaluators, in the role of
clients, the interior design. The presentation is
intended to be two-way dialogue, as in a
conversation or interview, rather than a one-way
illustrated talk.
17Presentation to Clients
- Is intended as a two-way dialogue, not an
illustrated talk - May be up to 15 minutes
- 1-minute warning will be given at 14 minutes
- Participant will be stopped at 15 minutes.
- The Presentation to Clients will be evaluated
based on knowledge of interior design,
understanding of space needs, organization,
effective use of design boards, voice quality,
appropriate body language, use of time, clear and
concise answers to questions.
