Grant Application

• We applied for a grant from Lemelson MIT for up
  to 10,000.
• 25 out of 60 groups were selected to continue to
  refine their invention ideas.
• We applied for approx. 6,700, according to our
  research.
• 10 groups nationwide aquired a grant from
  Lemelson Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
• We are the only school in California to get the
  grant.

Invention Overview

• Were designing a remote water quality sensor.
• We have not yet determined whether it will be
  used in lakes or rivers.
• The module will have pH, temperature,
  conductivity, turbidity, and oxygen level
  sensors.
• According to our research, those are the major
  indicators of water quality.
• We might use a sort of cell phone uplink to
  transmit data and we might integrate GPS into the
  module.

Progress

• We have completed the research phase and are now
  beginning the experimentation phase.
• We have established many valuable contacts.
• We have purchased and received many of the
  components needed to construct the module.
• We are currently developing and conducting
  experiments to determine proper methods of data
  acquisition.

Rewards

• This project counts as a nationwide
  accomplishment for a college application.
• Special recognition for applying to MIT.
• At the end of the year, we get to go to MIT to
  showcase our invention.
• However, they will only pay for 2 students to go
  so we need to start fundraising for everybody to
  go.
• We need approx. 8,000 to be able to take
  everybody to MIT.
