Defining Visioning
  • Visioning involves a community of people
    developing ideas and setting the stage.
  • Creating a picture of where your Chapter is going
    that allows the reader or listener to create a
    mind image.

  • Engages members (Board)
  • Fosters creativity
  • Allows members to see where the chapter is going
  • Gives members the ability to know where they can
    contribute.

How to Create and Communicate Visions?
  • Be specific about goals and objectives
  • Use words that create a picture of where you want
    to go
  • Communicate early and often
  • Add the vision into various chapter communication
    all year
  • Build into your theme for the year
  • Visual aides - Cards, tokens at meetings

Visioning
  • Start by doing a few exercises with your chapter
    leadership
  • Really think about the 1 to 3 things you would
    like to accomplish this year
  • Put pictures to your words
  • Use the images throughout the year to
    remind/reinforce what your vision is for the
    chapter

  • Doing what is right
  • Doing what you say you will do
  • Remembering that you have a fiduciary duty to the
    Chapter members
  • Remembering you have a responsibility to the
    Association
  • Ethical leadership should be visible

  • a. Have Chapters best interest
  • b. Do what you say walk the talk
  • c. Honor commitments
  • d. Advocate for chapter and members

  • Managers task oriented - near or immediate
  • Leaders Focused on future invest changes let
    their team manage day-to-day
  • Managers Focus on day-to-day
  • Both Leaders Managers are ethical even in
    difficult times/situations
