• They have always seen PowerPoint before, but if
  the design is new and different, maybe theyll
  recognize the material is too.

Making a Template

• Under View, Go to Master and select Slide Master.
• This allows you to edit the background, font,
  text size and color, and bullets.
• This presentation will emphasize making a new
  background.

Producing the Background

• New and original backgrounds can be produced as
  single images or as tiles.
• Single images will be resized, but should be
  relatively large and correctly proportioned for a
  PowerPoint screen.
• If not large enough, the resized image will
  blurred.
• If not approximately the same proportions as the
  screen, distortion will occur.
• Tiles work like they do on Web pages.

• Go to Format and click on Background.
• When presented with the screen to the right,
  Click on the down arrow.

• Highlight Fill Effects

Choose Picture
Then click Select Picture

• Select the image to be used and apply it.
• Make choices for bullets, font, and text size and
  color.
• Save the result as a Presentation Template within
  the Presentation Design folder under Templates in
  the Office Folder.

Using Tiles

• Tiles are small graphics which will be repeated
  many times to form a background.

• If the tile is very long like this (originally
  about 12.5 inches)

• To make use of a tile, go to Slide Master as was
  done to use an original image.
• Select View and then choose Slide Master in the
  Master Menu.

A Few Last Pieces of Advice

• Creativity and good taste will take care of a lot
  of problems but
• Avoid backgrounds with mixed dark and light areas
• Bright and busy can be very distracting!
