1
LINKING WOMEN AFRICA
  • PRESENTATION

Together for the Best
2
Background
  • In April 2007 a group of African women decided to
create an organisation. The idea came after they
faced many difficulties on getting information
and advice as well as on accessing training and
    service providers for our families

3
Our Membership
  • Up to date we work with 35 women and 18 children.
The group welcomes all African women

4
Our Aims and Mission
  • To provide information ,advice and training to
African women in west end Newcastle
  • To raise awareness about services available to
    them
  • Our mission is to help African women to develop
confidence and skills enabling them to become
more independent and participate fully in the
    society

5
Joint Work
  • We work closely with organisations like the
Participation Unit, New deal for community, city
    council,sure start,health works Newcastle,
Newcastle education department , regional refugee
    forum, children services

6
A Need of Learning
  • We are keen on learning and we went through
different training. Recently we have been trained
    on safeguarding children

7
Linking Communities
  • We want to act as a bridge between our community
which is hard to reach and services provider

8
Our Difficulties
  • Lack of fund
  • Lack of trust from funders as a new group
  • Lack of venue

9
Hopes for the Future
  • We are hoping to run an information advisory
session and get our own centre
  • We will take part of the training ran conjointly
by children's services and health works Newcastle
around community development work and how to get
involved in Participation in Childrens Services
  • Support from different service providers,
    including Childrens Services
  • Thank you for your attention
