What is a fragment?
  • A group of words with end punctuation that is not
    a complete sentence.
  • It is either missing a subject
  • Ran across the street.
  • Or it is missing a verb
  • The beautiful, well-mannered girl.

  • By displaying and selling their work at crafts
fairs, artisans give people across the country a
chance to admire and purchase their works.
  • There are many different types of crafts,
    including ceramics, weaving, knitting, and
    painting.
  • One of my favorite craft fairs is held every
summer in the Berkshire Mountains in
    Massachusetts.
  • There are so many types of works from which you
can choose glassware, rugs, tapestries, vases,
    colorful prints.
  • Displaying paintings based on nursery rhymes, one
of the artists had the perfect gift for my
    youngest brother.

5
Run-Ons
  • Two or more complete sentences incorrectly
punctuated as if they were one.
  • Elizabeth turned at the sudden noise a bird had
    crashed into the picture window.
  • You can correct it by splitting it into two
    sentences.
  • Elizabeth turned at the sudden noise. A bird had
    crashed into the picture window.

6
Or you can add commas and conjunctions
  • I baked the cake this morning I have not frosted
    it.
  • I baked the cake this morning, but I have not
    frosted it.
  • Or with semicolons
  • I baked the cake this morning however, I have
    not frosted it.

7
Or you can rewrite it
  • I baked the cake this morning. I have not had a
    chance to frost it yet.
  • Although I have not had a chance to frost it yet,
I did bake the cake this morning.

  • My grandmother taught me about quilting. I
    really enjoy this craft.
  • When I was little, it was difficult, but now it
    is easier.
  • Correct
  • Sometimes we follow a traditional pattern, and
sometimes we make scenes that tell a story.
  • Last year, my sister started learning to quilt.
She enjoys it almost as much as I do.
