1IAP Map 4
2IAP Map 4 Unit Objective
By the end of this lesson the students will be
able to list the key Components Design Criteria
of a multi-page IAP and the methods used to
produce a multi-page IAP map.
3Key Components
- Index Page
- Page or Map Numbered
- Legend S.T.A.N.D on every page
- Full Incident Area is covered
- Lat / Long Grid on every page
4Design Criteria
- Fit a Single Division on one page if possible.
- Maps will be copied black and white
- Tiles should overlap by ¼ inch
- Index map is a reference map (KISS)
5Example IAP Tile
6Page Definitions
- Paneled plot 1 large sheet, plotted in strips,
usually produced by ArcPress. - Multi page multiple sheets of the same size
used to cover the entire incident at a fixed
scale. - Tiling Replicating the same small sheet across
the paper of a plotter.
7Multi-Page IAP Map
8Multi-Page IAP Map Purpose
Multi-Page IAP Maps are a series of IAP map pages
used when it is impossible to cover the entire
incident area on a single IAP map page. Remember
that IAP maps are Generally created at 124,000
scale.
9Key Points
- How to make and arrange map pages for multi-page
IAP map using ESRI Map Series Extension. - How to properly label map pages.
- How to Design and Print your Map Series
- Components that go on IAP map index page
10ESRI Map Series
- ArcGIS 8.x users can download from www.esri.com
- ArcGIS 9.x users can find the extension in the
ArcGIS Developers Kit - \\ArcGIS\DeveloperKit\samples\
- Cartography\Map_Production\DSMapBook
11Map Series
Open ArcMap and make sure the Map Series
extension is turned on and the toolbar is visible
12Create a New Map Series
The Create Map Book button launches a wizard that
walks the user through a series of steps to
design and build the Map Series based on the
tiles built by the Create/Update Map Grids
Button.
13Create/Update Map Grids
The Create/Update Map Grids button launches the
Grid Generator Wizard. The Wizard creates a
polygon (Shapefile or PGDB Feature Class) that
represents the tiles for the map.

15IAP Map 4 Unit Review
By the end of this lesson the students will be
able to list the key tools used to produce a
multi-page IAP map.
