  • Features of CBS

7
Features of CBS
  • Centralized Banking Solution
  • Data of all the customers are centralized
  • Single data base of all the customers
  • Facilitates real time access of customer data
from any of the connected branch or office.
  • Role based access control
  • Parameter setup is centralized
  • Role out of products and schemes are uniform and
    achieved from central location

8
Features of CBS .contd.
  • Standardized procedures across the bank
  • Facilitates centralized monitoring
  • Single view of the customer
  • Same view of the data for all stake holders
depending on their role and responsibilities.
  • Centralized generation of important reports
  • Centralized activities for enhanced productivity
    and operational efficiency.

Surround Applications
ATM
WEB SERVER
IBS
13
How does Surround Application Works?
  • Surround applications like ATM , IBS are
different systems and they can not communicate
    directly with CBS.
  • An intermediate server known as Connect 24 (
    Bancsconnect) facilitates the communication.
  • Communicate to CBS in ISO8583 standard format.
  • ATM and IBS are required to be available to the
    customers on 24 X 7.
  • But during the day end , day begin and other
maintenance period, the CBS server may not be
available for these ADC ( Alternate delivery
    channels)

14
How to provide the Services?
  • Another server known as CSIS (Centralized Stand
    In Server) is introduced
  • CSIS will be have the latest / current account
details ( like balance, transactions etc,) as
    available in CBS DB server.
  • It gets the continues updates from CBS DB server
  • BC will take ADC transactions to CSIS during the
    outage of CBS DB server.
  • Customer is serviced

15
  • Precaution to be taken is
  • When the CBS DB server is UP, the Transactions
made in the CSIS server are to be updated first.
  • System has been designed to handle so.
  • In case it is not updated , the transactions of
CSIS will not be reflected in CBS DB
  • Similarly, in case the CSIS server is down when
CBS DB is up and functioning, the transaction
details of CBS DB will not be reflected in CSIS.
  • Both are not desirable
  • It is monitored and managed 24 x 7 by DC

16
Anytime, Anywhere Banking
17
  • Redundancy and Fall back
  • Disaster Setup

18
  • Technology will face hiccups
  • Adequate redundancy is to be build
  • In every possible stage of the setup
  • Data Centre (DC)
  • DRS with 100 computing power
  • Data is replicated to DRS continuously from DC,
with a time gap of 30 mts.
  • Storage based replication for cbs
  • Oracle based ( data guard).
  • DRS can be started within 2 hours of DC
    disruption.

19
  • However DRS switch over is the last resort.
  • Sufficient redundancy has been build in the DC
    setup
  • The servers are in clusters
  • DB server has a similar server of same capacity
    and power
  • In case the main DB server fails the standby
server will start functioning within a time lag
    of 10- 15mts.
  • This time is required to start the services in
    the standby server
  • Web servers are in clusters ( fail over) so as
    application servers.

20
  • Storages are in RAID 10
  • Every bit of data is written in 2 disks (
    Mirroring)
  • Any one disk failure will enable us to retrieve
the data from the mirrored disk
  • System handles it automatically.
  • NETWORK redundancy
  • ZNCs are connected to DC and DRS through separate
    lease line
  • DC and DRS are connected through link from BSNL
and Reliance ( 2 separate links)
  • Any link failure between ZNC and DC
  • Connectivity can be established through ZNC
    -gtDRS-gtDC

21
  • ZNCs and DC / DRS have ISDN connection , which
shall be used for connectivity in case of lease
    line failure
  • The connection between NC ZNC and BOs NC /
    ZNC
  • Are established with LL and ISDN
  • Now the second connection is established with
    VSAT or RF.
  • But, still the connectivity is lost at branch
    level
  • BCP is to be followed for uninterrupted customer
    service.

22
  • CBS Flow of Transactions

23
  • User access CBS either from PC or Thin client.
  • It is a web browser based access ( I.E)
  • Similar to Internet browsing
  • URL is intranet address
  • Access is granted after authentication of userid
    and password
  • User command is transmitted from PC on commit
  • F4 or F10

  • USER GROUPS
  • IN CBS

31
  • All users logging into the application have a
unique user ID and a password.
  • Based on the kind of banking operations performed
by these users they are grouped into different
    user Groups.

Captive / Free users
  • CAPTIVE The CAPTIVE user with a captive status
can access the data belonging to his service
outlet alone but can inquire on the accounts
    belonging to other SOL.
  • FREE FREE user can access the data belonging
    to all service outlets.

35
  • CBS Case Setup at PNB

36
  • It is one of the largest Single instance Oracle
    database
  • Maximum number of concurrent users 17000
  • The size of the database is around 4 TB
  • Daily transactions of around 20 22 Lacs
  • ADC transactions is around 2 Lacs (daily)
  • Separate MIS server

37
Central data repository -improve quality -removes
in consistency -avoids duplicity.
  • Proposed IT Infrastructure to meet the total
    business needs

The surround application will be managed by
focused teams
CBS Transaction Processing system
EDW MIS and Data Mining system
User will interact with CBS and EDW only
New Business requirements can be met with either
a new application or customisation of CBS
