• Kanto was the home of the Tokugawa Shogunate and
  Edo (modern day Tokyo).
• Kanto became dominant after the 1869 Meiji
  Restoration when the Emperor moved the capital to
  Tokyo.
• The Meiji Restoration is characterized by the
  fall of the Shogunate and the transformation of
  Japan from feudal to modern.
• September 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake. 140,000
  killed.
• Tokyo, its main metropolis, was almost completely
  destroyed during WWII but now is the largest city
  in the world.
• Kanto sets the pace that the rest of Japan tries
  to follow.

  get your tummies rumbling.

• If you were to go to Kanto...

• You would probably depart from LAX and arrive via
  Narita Airport in the Chiba Prefecture or via
  Tokyo International Airport in... tada... Tokyo!
• ...but probably Narita.
• Pay about 500 for yourself and another 500 for
  a friend that will, of course, join you on this
  fun-filled adventure.
• You would then probably take the very luxurious
  JR train line from Narita to a hotel in Chiba,
  maybe even the Shinkansen.
• Your wallet feels 5,000-7,000 yen lighter.

Remember, Japanese airports are extremely
