3Background The Iditarod is the worlds largest
dogsled race. It is held the first part of March
every year. The trail, which is over one
thousand miles long, begins in Anchorage, Alaska,
and ends in Nome. Past races have taken from
11-32 days to finish. In the past this sport
has drawn little attention in the lower 48, but
with the invention of global technology, you and
your students will literally feel like you are on
the trail!
4Rationale
All facets of the curriculum are incorporated
into this fascinating unit. No matter the age,
your students will enjoy learning about our
countrys Last Great Frontier. This unit
coordinates with MAP skills and Show-Me
Standards We have tried to list various age
