3History of the Iditarod
Named in honor of the 1925 serum-run from
Nenana to Nome
Founded by Dorothy Page and Joe Redington,
Sr., in 1967.
First race had 34 mushers and a 50,000
purse. This years race has 100 mushers and a
300,000 purse.
