2What is MSDN AA?
- MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDN AA) is designed to
provide the easiest and most inexpensive way for
universities to make the latest Microsoft
software available in labs, classrooms, and on
student PCs. MSDN AA is an annual membership
program for departments that use technology in
support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics (STEM) courses. The membership
provides a complete, inexpensive way to keep
academic labs, faculty, and students on the
leading edge of technology.
3What are the benefits?
- The department receives numerous benefits
including - Latest set of Microsoft platforms, servers, and
developer tools. - License to install the software on any number of
lab machines used by the department for
instructional and research purposes. - License to provide the software to students
taking courses that lead to credit or a
certificate within the department, so that they
can load the software on their personal computers
for use in coursework and personal projects. - Electronic software distribution to students
through e-academy License Management Systems
(ELMS). - Four technical support incidents in addition to
access to the managed newsgroups and the Online
Concierge.

one year or three years. - Program Administrators will receive all MSDN AA
products and License Keys electronically via the
MSDN AA subscriber download site. - MSDN AA High School
- Membership includes a one-time physical delivery
of current MSDN AA High School titles to the
Program Administrator.
8Pricing and Renewals
- A renewal means moving within the same level of
AA membership, for example, from 1-year Original
(or Full) to 1-year Original. - An upgrade means moving from one level of AA to a
different level of AA, for example, from AA
1-year Original (or Full) to 3-year Electronic. - High School can move to another level if approved
but must pay the new price not the renewal price.

at expiry.
11MSDN AA Student Download Solutions
- Department-owned secure server
- Department may set up its own system for students
to download software. - CD/DVD check-out system
- Students can borrow CD/DVD through library, lab,
or other appropriate method. - Students get to keep media for small cost.
- Bulk or individual orders are possible.
- e-academy
- Centrally managed, Web-based download system.
- Department manages server with software locally.

12What are the rules?
- Software may only be used for instructional and
research purposes. - The department must be within a qualified
accredited educational institution. - Only students taking credit or certificate
courses in the department that is a member may
download the software. - Students must get software in one of the
following ways use e-academy to download
software, download the software from a secure
server provided by the department, check out CDs
from a lab or library.
13MSDN AA Registration Process
- Register online via http//msdn2.microsoft.com/en-
us/academic/default.aspx. - Memberships kept on hold until
- Microsoft approves application.
- Payment or PO received.
- Membership ID and details on how to access
benefits communicated via e-mail. - Access to Subscriber Downloads and Member site
within 48 hours.
