  with a planet suspended from the hair-line of the
  V, in honor of Le Verrier, its discoverer. The
  planet was first called Le Verrier.

• The symbol for Pluto is made by superimposing the
  P and L. Many believe the letters represent
  Percival Lowell for whom the Lowell observatory
  is named. Pluto was discovered in 1930 by
  observations made from this observatory.
