• Scouts would be sent out to locate the buffalo
• Members of warrior societies would organise and
  police the hunt to make sure that not too many
  animals were killed in the hunt
• Two or three hunts a year would keep the tribe
  fed.

After the hunt

• The women and children butchered the animals.
• Some of the body parts liver and kidneys were
  eaten raw.
• Other parts were boiled or roasted, and the rest
  cut into strips to be smoked or dried in the sun.
  Why?
• Some was pounded into a pulp and mixed with wild
  berries such as cherries to make pemmican.
• Every part of the buffalo was used.
