Goals for the STEP Project
  • 1. Revise the mathematics curriculum to meet
    National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
    (NCTM) standards.
  • 2. Revise the science curriculum to meet national
    standards and teach science by doing science.
  • 3. Improve teacher performance through content,
    pedagogical, and multicultural training.
  • 4. Develop and implement a model of continuous
    academic and social support programs for
    students.

Goals for the STEP Project
  • 5. Prepare 100 of graduates to take Algebra 1,
    with 80 of them taking it by the 8th grade.
  • Double the enrollment of minority students in
    advanced science and mathematics courses.
  • 7. Reduce by 50 the gap in mathematics and
    science achievement, measured by standardized
    tests.
  • 8. Double minority enrollment in Advanced
    Placement (AP) science and mathematics classes.
