History
  • Opportunity provided for ALL Arizona school
    districts to apply for grant planning money to
    design a performance-based compensation program
    for teachers
  • The Arizona legislature created the Arizona
    Career Ladder Program (CLP) as a five-year pilot.
  • 1986 WRUSD 8 was phased in.
  • 1990 The Career Ladder Program received
    permanent legislative status as a result of
    demonstration of higher student achievement in
    Career Ladder districts. Expansion of the program
    was authorized for seven additional districts.
  • No further expansion is authorized limiting CL
    to 28 districts
  • Career Ladder Law A.R.S 15-918 - 15-918.05

CLP Mission Statement
  • The mission of WRUSD Career Ladder Program is to
    increase student achievement through teaching
    excellence by providing support and incentive for
    teachers as they cultivate their teaching skills
    and expand their collegial efforts.

What is Career Ladder?
  • It is a performance-based compensation plan that
    provides incentives to teachers who choose to
    make career advancements without leaving the
    classroom or the profession.
  • The state requires that a number of basic
    elements be included in the local plan Career
    Ladder Law ARS 15-918
  • To ensure compliance in all areas, CL Steering
    Committee annually review and refine the required
    elements

  • You move up the ladder!

New Teacher Induction
  • All teachers new to WRUSD automatically placed
  • During 2nd year, new teachers begin qualification
    process for placement at Residency Phase
  • Attend all current New Teacher/CLP Induction
    In-services
  • Certified teachers transferring in from other
    Arizona CL Districts will be individually
    evaluated for placement in their initial year
    with WRUSD through the reciprocity process

Residency 16 hours Minimum of 8 hours from List A, all other hours can be from List A or B.
Evolving 24 hours Minimum of 12 hours from List B, all other hours can be from List A or B.
Accomplishing 32 hours Minimum of 16 hours from List C, all other hours can be from List A, B, or C.
