Reset Button
  • Resets your handheld if it stops responding
  • To do a soft reset, use the tip of the stylus to
    gently press the reset button inside the hole on
    the back panel of your handheld (more later!)

Where Is the Stylus Located?
  • The stylus is stored on the right hand side of
    your Palm handheld
  • NOTE To avoid losing the stylus, always put it
    back in the holder of your Palm handheld after
    use

Using the navigator / 5-way navigator / the 5-way
  • The navigator consists of the two large,
    concentric buttons in the middle of the lower
    part of your Palm
  • Press the edges to move up, down, right, or left,
    and the center button to select items
  • The navigator works differently in different
    applications, but it's usually an easy way to
    operate your Palm with one hand

About Applications
  • An application is a software program you use for
    a specific purpose
  • Some applications (apps) are built into your palm
    device, such as Calendar and Tasks.
  • Other applications are included on the Palm
    installation CD
  • Still other applications are available for
    purchase and/or download

Favorites/Home Button
  • Press once to open Favorites View, which lets you
    create a list of the items you want to quickly
    access
  • Favorites View can include applications and links
    to the web
  • Press twice to open Applications View (Home),
    where you can see all of the applications
    installed on your handheld

Calibrate the Touchscreen
  • Hold the Palm as you would normally, then tap
    exactly in the center of each target
  • This aligns the position of your stylus to the
    screens electronic touch sensors, personalizing
    it!

  • You can find information by entering text with
    the Find function or searching for a phone number
    using the Phone Lookup function
  • These two functions are available for all the
    basic Palm handheld applications

  • You can find records on your Palm handheld by
    entering the whole word or the first few letters
  • The search results are displayed by application
  • NOTE Start the application that contains the
    data you are looking for for a faster search
    result!
  • This Find feature is also useful if you do not
    remember which application you used to create a
    record you are searching for

  • Click on the Find Icon on the Status Bar

  • Enter the text you want to find, in this case
  • palm
  • Then tap OK

  • The Find function starts to search and displays
    the list of search results
  • The find feature that makes it easy to locate
    occurrences of a specific group of text
    characters in various applications on your palm
  • If you have a match, click on the title

  • To stop searching
  • Tap Cancel
  • To resume the search
  • Tap Find More
  • NOTE The Find function is not case sensitive
    searching for palm" also finds Palm"
  • TIP Select text in an application prior to
    tapping the Find icon to automatically place that
    text in the Find dialog box

  • The Find application automatically launches the
    application, opens the matching record and
    highlights the word you searched

  • Performing a Soft Reset

Troubleshooting Soft Reset
  • Restarting (resetting) your Palm handheld
  • NOTE You do not usually need to reset your Palm!
  • However, your Palm may no longer turn on, accept
    a beam, or respond to your operations for some
    reason
  • In these cases, you may be able to solve your
    problem by resetting your palm to restart it
