2 Why Did The Wicked Witch Get That Way?
Wicked is a retelling of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. In this version, the Wicked Witch of the West, named Elphaba, isnt so wicked. Rather, she is working against the Wizard, who is persecuting the talking animals of Oz. Her sister Nessa is killed by a falling house. The girl in the house, Dorothy Gale from Kansas, is sent by the Wizard to kill Elphaba. Dorothy really only wants to apologize for killing Elphabas sister. Grieving, Elphaba accidentally sets herself on fire. Dorothy, trying to save the witch, throws a bucket of water on her, but melts her instead.
