3The Regents Rules adopted by the Board of
Regents include provisions relating to the
standards of conduct expected of students
at Component institutions. Students who fail to
conform to established Standards of conduct are
subject to disciplinary penalties under these
Rules
4Example of Academic Dishonesty (Cheating)
- Substituting or permitting another to take a test
- Possessing unauthorized materials during a test
- Collaborating with another during a test
- Discussing the contents of a test with another
student who will test at a different time - Paying or coercing someone to obtain and
unadministered test

- Falsifying research data or other academic work
offered for credit - Utilizing in whole or part, patient data the
student knows to be false - Destroying Library materials to gain an academic
advantage - The submission of anothers work as ones own

another person in preparing academic assignments
or to commit a violation of these rules - The altering of grades or academic records such
as applications for admission, the degree, grade
reports, or other reporting forms used by the
Registrar
8If You Suspect a Student is Cheating..
- NEVER, NEVER, NUNCA!
- Grab a students paper and ripe it to shreds
- Demand that the student immediately leave the
class

- Privately ask the student to move to another
location - After the exam, discuss the alleged violation and
what evidence you have. The student should be
given the opportunity to respond but may not be
forced to comment

12Duties of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs
- Contacting the student and making some
determination if the charges are or not founded - If the charges are founded, the student can waive
the right to a hearing and accept disposition by
the Student Affairs Officer
13Incident Requiring a Hearing
- A 3 member panel of faculty members chaired by a
hearing officer. One member from the school of
the student - Panel will decide guilt or innocence. A guilty
decision, the chair can assess a penalty or refer
to the student affairs officer - The final level of appeal in disciplinary actions
is to the president

- Academic dishonesty can occur on homework or
computer assignments - Change your test
- Dont post your answers until everyone has been
tested - Structure your testing environment anyway you see
fit
15 Suggested wording for Syllabus Students are
expected to be above reproach in all scholastic
activities. Students who engage in scholastic
dishonesty are subject to disciplinary
penalties, including the possibility of failure
in the course and dismissal from the university.
Scholastic dishonesty includes but is not
limited to cheating, plagiarism, collusion, the
submission for credit of any work or materials
that are attributable in whole or in part to
another person, taking an examination for
another person, any act designed to give unfair
advantage to a student, or the attempt to
commit such acts. Regents Rules and
Regulations, Part One, Chapter VI, Section 3,
Subsection 3.2, Subdivision 3.22
