Title: European Masters
1 European Masters
- George Papadourakis
- TEI of CRETE
21. European Master in Language and Speech
- The contents covered by the European Masters can
be part of an existing Masters or undergraduate
studies. Many models are conceivable, depending
on national laws. By separating the European
Certificate from any legal degrees students may
obtain, a truly European (or international)
quality stamp can be realised. The flexibility of
the scheme may interest a wide range of students
with a background in Linguistics, Electrical
Engineering, Computer Science and others to chose
for a specialisation of their studies in the area
of language and speech

216. European Master's in Clinical Linguistics
- The idea for a European Master's in Clinical
Linguistics (EMCL) was launched by the European
Language Council (ELC). The project started in
1998 as a Task Force of the ELC and is financed
by the European Union, under Socrates. The first
(pilot) year of this course will begin in
September 2000. - The idea behind a Master's in Clinical
Linguistics is that treatment of people (both
adults and children) with language disorders
requires more indepth knowledge of linguistics
and theoretical linguistics requires more indepth
knowledge of the relation between language and
cognition than is provided at the polytechnics
and universities in most European countries. All
courses will be taught in English.
226. European Master's in Clinical Linguistics
- Introduction
- This project involves a university programme at
advanced level (Master's type) in Clinical
Linguistics, providing an integrated training in
both neurolinguistic theory and clinical methods.
Speech and language therapists who follow this
programme will be better equipped to assess and
treat persons with a language impairment because
of the additional knowledge they acquire about
the theoretical background of the language
disorders they are dealing with. Students with a
background in linguistics or psychology will
become acquainted with the clinical situation, so
that they will be able to develop better
assessment and treatment materials. It is
envisaged that a certain cross-fertilisation will
take place as well, as a result of which speech
and language therapists will contribute to the
development of material or tests, while students
with a more theoretical background get involved
in clinical activities.
236. European Master's in Clinical Linguistics
- Partner Universities
- University of Groningen , The Netherlands
- University of Newcastle, United Kingdom
- University of Potsdam, Germany
- University of Reading, United Kingdom
246. European Master's in Clinical Linguistics
- Who can attend the programme?
- The requirement for admission is at least three
years of higher education with an emphasis on
speech and language pathology, linguistics,
biomedical sciences, psychology or special
education with emphasis of language impairments. - Admission is decided by the board of studies At
each participating university a maximum of 10
students can enroll.
256. European Master's in Clinical Linguistics
- Programme
- The total number of credits required for
completing the programme will be 60 (in
ECTSEuropean Credit Transfer System) terms. This
is one year of study, full time. The core
programme will consist of 15 ECTS-credits, the
specialised options (second and third term) will
amount to 30 ECTS credits, while the thesis will
represent 15 ECTS credits. - The programme will consist of an obligatory core
programme and a limited number of specialised
options. This core programme aims at providing
the necessary background in clinical linguistics.
The courses constituting the core programme will
be taught during the first term of the academic
year at each of the participating institutions.
It is envisaged that students will have to attend
three of these courses and will get a pass for
the fourth one on the basis of their background
in higher education. The subjects covered in the
courses that constitute the core programme are - Theoretical linguistics (syntax, semantics,
morphology, phonology) - Language impairments (both developmental and
acquired) - Experimental Linguistics (including statistics)
- Language acquisition.
267. European Masters Degree in Food Studies
- Introduction
- The idea of a postgraduate programme in Food
Studies combining teaching and research, directed
at students from all over Europe, and including
study periods in various European countries, has
been under consideration since 1992. - The initiative was taken by a network of
European universities, coordinated by Escola
Superior de Biotecnologia (Catholic University of
Portugal, Porto). - Early in 1995 this project received partial
financing from the European Commission, through
the Agro-Industrial Research Division, AIR
Programme. - The purpose of the European Masters Degree is to
provide scientific and business training in an
international context, and to create awareness of
the cultural, social and economic realities of
the modern European Food Industry.
277. European Masters Degree in Food Studies
- Partner Universities
- Escola Superior de Biotecnologia (Portugal)
- ENSIA MASSY (France)
- Lund University (Sweden)
- Technische Universität München - Weihenstephan

287. European Masters Degree in Food Studies
- Course Work
- The MSc programme combines advanced theoretical
and applied knowledge, research training and
team-work skills, in the context of the modern
Food Industry. Students will benefit from living
and working together in an international setting.
The language of the programme will be English. - The course work is divided into five periods,
each of two months duration consisting of three
to four study modules supplemented by seminars
and industrial visits. - The five study periods take place at ESB, Porto
(Portugal), University College Cork (Ireland),
University of Reading (United Kingdom), Šcole
Nationale Superieure des Industries Agricoles et
Alimentaires, Massy (France) and the University
of Lund (Sweden). - The modules can be divided into three areas
applied science, management/marketing and
engineering/technology.
298. European Masters in InterCultural
Communication
- In autumn 2001 a European Network launched a new
Master's Programme. The European Master's (Degree
Programme) in InterCultural Communication (EMICC)
is a two-year interdisciplinary academic course
of study designed to enhance the professional
competence of participants preparing for careers

339. European Masters in Occupational Therapy
- The growing need for masters in occupational
therapy During the last few years developments
in society and in the profession have given rise
to interesting challenges for occupational
therapists. Governments are becoming increasingly
aware that occupational therapy services can
enhance the quality of life. At the same time,
the European Union acknowledges the need for more
equity of provision for disabled people. And the
ongoing unification of Europe provides an ideal
laboratory for the development of occupational
therapy theory, because similarities and
differences between cultures facilitate the study
of effects of the environment in the shaping of
human beings' occupational lifestyle.
349. European Masters in Occupational Therapy
- Partner Universities
- Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Swede
- School of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy
in Naestved, Denmark - Hogeschool van Amsterdam in The Netherlands.

- Structure of the course The total study load is
1680 hours. The course takes approximately two
years part-time. The programme is built up of
four modules and a dissertation. You will study

an integral part of all modules. A presentation
of the research outcomes during a conference in
Stockholm, Sweden, at the beginning of the third
year will conclude the course.

4011. European Masters in Renewable Energy
- Introduction
- The European Commission has presented its White
Paper, targeting at 12 renewable energy of the
primary energy supply by 2010. The impact of the
job market of the energy sector is significant
bio-engineers and farmers will need to develop
the bio-energy potential, architects will need to
be educated in solar building design, urban
planners need to design cities and urban
developments in an energy conscious way, and
policy makers will require knowledge to make
strategic policy choices.
4111. European Masters in Renewable Energy
- Educational programmes at the moment do not offer
at a sufficiently wide scale the requirements
asked by the market. The renewable energy markets
are growing at an impressive rate, and
unsufficiently persons can be absorbed by this
new market because of a lack of training in the
field. This project aims at setting up a
European Master Degree on Renewable Energy, for
persons with a technical background (engineers,
bio-engineers, architects with technical
background, etc), organised by universities of 6
member states with complementary experiences. - The proposed EUREC Master Degree is an initiative
of EUREC Agency with its 42 prominent centres and
university groups active in renewable energy RDD
and education.
