classroom over a period of (ideally) consecutive
days as teachers develop aspects of their
    teaching practice.

  • address content
  • recognize where the teacher is in his or her
journey as a teacher of literacy
  • identify strengths and needs of students
  • present possible next steps
  • co-create a coaching plan with gradual release

6
The Steps in Establishing a Coaching Cycle
  • decide on a focus
  • begin to identify needs- what has to happen
    before we get started
  • determine outcomes and accountability
  • define coachs role in the process
  • set timeline for coaching cycle and beyond

7
How its helped
  • Coaching is based around the long term, rather
    than the short term
  • Co-creation allows for improved teacher buy-in
    and ownership
  • building from desired outcomes
  • pre-determined accountability piece allows for
    principal observation
  • coaching relationship/roles are agreed upon

8
What do you see as possibilities?
