  • The two countries involved in the Cuban Missile
Crisis were the United States and the Soviet
Union. Cuba was also partially involved because
the Soviet Union placed its short-ranged missiles
    there.

5
  • The United States had an advantage over the
Soviet Union for a while because they had better
weapons and the United States was bigger.
  • Although the Soviet Union also had a small
advantage. The Soviet Union had moved some of
    there nuclear weapons into Cuba.
  • This frightened the United States a little.
Some of the civilians of Cuba didnt like their
new government and had moved to the United
States. Because of this, the United States had
some inside information on the Soviet Unions
    plans in Cuba.

6
  • The Cuban Missile Crisis occurred during the
year of 1962 when John F. Kennedy was president.
The crisis was only fourteen days long, but was
the closest to ever come to a nuclear war. The
    crisis lasted from October 15 - October 29, 1962.
The crisis also happened in the middle of the
    Cold War.

  • The United States was much bigger and richer
than the Soviet Union. This helped the U.S.
build bigger and better weapons. The United
States also had a better leader, President John
    F. Kennedy. Since the Soviet Union had started
constructing nuclear missiles in Cuba, the United
States started constructing missiles in Turkey.
The United States also had a U-2 spy plane that
had flown over Cuba and was shot down. After
that Khrushchev, the Soviet Union leader, had
demanded the removal of U.S. missiles in Turkey
for the removal of Soviet missiles in Cuba.

9
  • Since the United States and the Soviet Union
disliked each other, each wanted a way to protect
themselves. The Soviet Union could only
    construct short-ranged missiles, therefore they
decided to place them in Cuba. The United States
missiles however could already reach the Soviet
Unions territory. Once the United States found
out about the missiles in Cuba, President Kennedy
demanded the removal of Soviet missiles from
Cuba. When the Soviet Unions leader, Premier
Nikita Khrushchev, denied Kennedys demand, the
United States placed missiles in Turkey. When
Khrushchev found out about the missiles in
Turkey, he made an agreement with Kennedy for the
removal of missiles from Cuba in exchange for the
    removal of missiles in Turkey.

10
  • The Soviet Union was a country that has always
had problems with United States of America. They
were also a smaller country. The Soviet Union
was also not as wealthy. Therefore, they could
not build as good of weapons as the United
States. They could only construct missiles that
could reach Europe and not the United States.
This is the reason why they invaded Cuba and
began constructing new missiles there until
President John F. Kennedy found out from photos
that were taken of the missiles.

11
  • The research I have gathered consists of people
involved, countries involved, when it happened,
what it was about, and why it happened. I have
also gathered websites. From the research, I
have learned more than I already knew about the
    Cuban Missile Crisis.

  • There were three countries involved in the
crisis the United States, the Soviet Union, and
Cuba. Two main people that were in the crisis
were President John F. Kennedy and Premier Nikita
Khrushchev. These two men were the ones who
saved the world from the first nuclear war.

  • President Kennedy had learned about the crisis
in September, just a little before the real
thing. He told the Soviet Union to stop
transporting offensive weapons over to Cuba, but
they didnt listen and just kept constructing.
He then received a letter from Premier Nikita
Khrushchev that said that they would shoot down
any U-2 aircrafts that flew over Cuba. Now in
fear, he thought about how it would affect
democratic votes. He knew that if he did
something wrong, the democrats would not have a
chance of winning the election. So, in fear of
democrats never being elected president again he
chose to try and do something about the
situation. He had a private meeting with
Khrushchev a couple of times and things were
going good. When the Soviet Union finally agreed
to take missiles out of Cuba when the United
States started constructing missiles in Turkey to
    hit the Soviet Union.

16
  • The Soviet Union and United States didnt get
along great at the time and therefore, Khrushchev
started constructing missiles in Cuba to nuke the
United States. Once the United States found out
he threatened them by sending a letter stating he
would shoot down all U-2 planes that come near
Cuba. A little later on, he and John F. Kennedy
had a meeting over the crisis. Afterwards when
he found out about the missiles in Turkey
pointing toward the Soviet Union he gave in to an
agreement of the removal of missiles in Cuba for
the removal of missiles in Turkey.

17
  • From this Conflict and Compromise project, I
learned what happened, why it happened, and who
    was involved.
  • The Cuban Missile Crisis was a war that came
close to using nuclear weapons between the United
States and the Soviet Union. It might have only
lasted fourteen days but imagine what could have
    happened had it lasted longer.
  • The Soviet Union had placed launching missiles
in Cuba to nuke the United States. After
President Kennedy found out from a U-2 spy plane,
he took action and demanded removal of the
missiles. When they declined he placed missiles
    in Turkey.
  • The countries involved were the United States
and the Soviet Union. The two main people
involved in the crisis were President John F.
    Kennedy and Premier Nikita Khrushchev.

18
  • The Cuban Missile Crisis was the first war to
ever come close to using nuclear weapons. It
lasted for fourteen days from October 15 -
October 29, 1962. The two main countries
involved were the United States and Soviet Union,
although, Cuba also played a small role.
  • The crisis could have lasted longer but because
of two people, President John F. Kennedy and
Premier Nikita Khrushchev, it only lasted
fourteen days. When Kennedy found out about the
missiles in Cuba he demanded the removal of them.
Once Khrushchev denied Kennedys demand, Kennedy
had the United States start constructing missiles
in Turkey. When Khrushchev found out he decided
that he would remove missiles from Cuba if the
United States removed missiles from Turkey.
