Maintenance
  • Two categories of maintenance activities
  • Repair and replacement of erosion control devices
  • Removal and disposal of sediment from the devices

Maintenance Trigger Points
  • Remove sediment from basins and ditch checks when
    1/2 full
  • Remove sediment from silt fence when 1/3 full
  • Other trigger points may be specified by the
    Engineer (see Section 621.03 (l) of the
    Specifications)

Sediment Removal and Disposal
  • Sediment removed shall be deposited and
    stabilized as described in Sections 110 and 201
    or as directed by the Engineer
  • In some cases sediment controls may be allowed to
    silt in and never be removed or cleaned out

Winterizing
  • A pre-winterizing meeting will be scheduled with
    the Contractor to determine what is needed before
    shutting down for the winter
  • Plans should be made to maintain erosion and
    sediment control while work is shut down

Inspection Duties
  • Be familiar with Plans and Specifications
  • Be familiar with SWPPP
  • Check SWPPP for errors and problems prior to
    start of construction
  • Discuss details of SWPPP with Contractors
    personnel at Pre-construction Conference

Inspection Duties
  • Ensure that all BMPs are installed in accordance
    with the Plans and Specifications
  • Ensure compliance with Section 110 of
    Specifications
  • Ensure that wash water from concrete trucks is
    disposed of properly
  • Conduct SWPPP inspections and document status of
    BMPs as well as any instructions to Contractor

SWPPP Inspection Reports
  • Completed a minimum of every 7 days and within 24
    hours of any ½-inch rainfall
  • Copy should be sent to Contractor as soon as
    possible for corrective actions
  • Document Contractor compliance in job diary
  • Once the RE has received a copy of the NOT,
    reports may cease for the project

Construction Wastes
  • Section 110.07 of the Specifications describes
    the Contractors responsibilities for pollution
    prevention
  • Inspect Contractors materials, stockpiles, and
    other pollutant sources on the R/W and make sure
    they are properly safeguarded
  • Inspect Contractors housekeeping procedures

  • all disturbed areas of the site,
  • erosion and sediment BMPs,
  • vehicle entrances and exits, and,
  • material storage areas

Documentation Requirements
  • NOI must be filed with ADEQ, the Central Office
    will include the NOI in the Contract
  • Copy of all Change Orders regarding the SWPPP
    must be on file
  • Copy of the Pre-construction Conference minutes
    regarding discussions of the SWPPP must be on file

Documentation Requirements
  • Public Notice must be posted on bulletin board
  • Copy of all documentation regarding SWPPP should
    be kept in the REs Office and shall be readily
    available to all State and Federal inspectors
  • When deficiencies are noted in the SWPPP report,
    a copy must be given to the Contractor

Final Stabilization
  • Final stabilization as defined by Federal
    regulation is achieved when a uniform perennial
    vegetative cover of at least 70 of the native
    background cover for the area has been
    established
  • Notice of Termination (NOT) is submitted once
    final stabilization is established
