Title: 10 Safety Hazards for Facilities
110 Safety Hazards for Facilities
2Lack of Evacuation Plan In times of emergencies,
not everyone will be able to think clearly, which
is why having a mapped out evacuation plan is so
important. Many large facilities are required to
post 5s wall signs at key points in the building,
so that those attempting to evacuate can find
their way out no matter which exit is closest.
3Blocked Exits According to todays fire codes,
all building exits should be kept clear. This
way, in case of fire or other emergency, people
can be evacuated as safely and quickly as
possible.
4Cleaning Products Many of the products used to
clean large facilities use toxic chemicals and
create hazardous fumes. Its best to use a mask
when using these in tight spaces.
5High Storage Facilities often stack high to save
space, but this can lead to dangerous working
conditions. In case of earthquakes, there is a
higher likelihood of a product fall, and during
fires, the sprinklers will be blocked.
6Solvent Fumes Facilities large and small need
solvents of some kind. Even kids use them for
craft projects at school. Their fumes can be
very dangerous though. These types of chemicals
should be used in an aerated room and stored in
mildly cool temperatures.
7Inaccessible Electrical Whether its an outlet,
power strip, or fuse box, it should be easily
accessible with plenty of clearance. A fuse box
should have at least 32 inches of clearance.
8Combustible Materials Working with combustible
materials means posting warning signs about the
fire danger in many prominent places. Be sure to
reduce the amount of combustible material in
your facility to a minimum. This could be
paperwork, fabrics, wall coverings, etc.
Walls should be 80 clear of décor and other
coverings.
COMBUSTIBLE
9Clutter Although you may not always have time to
organize, its important to keep clutter off the
floor and out of the aisles. Not only will this
make your facility more safe but also more
efficient.
10Out of Date Training Regulations for facilities
are changing all the time, so if you dont stay
up on them, you could be violating safety
codes. Upon learning any new safety information,
be sure to share it with your team as soon as
possible.
11Safety Indicators No matter what kind of
facility You run, its imperative to Consider
safety your number one Priority. In order to
do this, you need to use safety indicators like
wall signs, floor tape, and floor signs to warn
people about hidden dangers and to direct them to
safety in case of emergency.
