• In 1609, Champlain helped Native Americans defeat
  Mohawk Iroquois.
• British and Americans vs. French and Indian
  allies.

Events leading to war

• Colonist wanted to take over French land in
  America.
• On the other hand British wanted to take over fur
  trade in French territory.

George Washington

• Established an outpost called Fort Necessity.
• Washingtons militia attacked a small detachment
  of French soldiers.
• Washington surrendered.
• These battles at Fort Necessity were the
  beginning of French and Indian War.

British general who was born in Westerham,
England. General James Wolfe captured Quebec
ending the fighting of the French and Indiana
War.

Fort Duquesne

• Edward James first launched an attack on Fort
  Duquesne.
• French soldiers and their Native Americans allies
  attacked them (Washington).
• People started questioning the competence of the
  British army, which they suffered defeat after
  defeated.

• British troops were on high cliffs.
• The caught the French and their commander.
• They won this battle by surprise but it was
  deadly.
• This lead them to victory at war.

• Britain began taxing the colonist to pay war.
• Britain had a financial crisis. Their debt
  doubled because they borrowed so much money.
• Many smuggling began.
• Sugar Act was passed in 1764.

• Native Americans had a fight with Great Britain.
• Native Americans captured 8 British forts.
• The war officially ended in 1763 with the Treaty
  of Paris.
• Great Britain claimed all of North America east
  of Mississippi River.
