- Japanese believed in Gods or nature spirits
called Kami - Kami could be in sand, waterfall, or trees.
- Early Japanese clans traced their origin to a
particular Kami - This religion is called Shinto or the way of the
kami

culture - As time went on they would begin to rely less on
Chinese culture as they became more
individualistic.

from China as the political system in China
declined. - Government in feudal Japan emperors had shoguns
(generals) - The daimyo local lords became very powerful
- Samurai- Used by the daimyo for protection.
- Peasants- worked under the samurai doing all
manual labor
