    Technologies and NIFTEMs message to the least
    developed villages of India

Village Adoption In line with NIFTEMs Theme

VILLAGE ADOPTIONPROGRAMME DETAILS
  • Immediately after joining B. Tech/ M. Tech
    course, students are divided into groups of 5 to
    7.
  • Each group adopts a village anywhere in India and
    nurses it for the four years they are in B. Tech
    and two years they are in M. Tech.
  • Students stay in the village four times a year 7
    to15 days each time

  • Students establish a work plan A long term
    goal of four years is clearly identified, with a
    Faculty Mentor
  • Record demographics assessing problems of
    villagers
  • Explain concepts of value addition, preservation
    of food and reduction of wastages.
  • Organize vital linkages Village Schools-Krishi
    Vigyan Kendra-District Administration- Banks
    etc. Sensitize and train the farmers and local
    youth
  • Promote entrepreneurship Encourage farmers and
    local youth to form producers company and
    establish small Food Processing Units.
  • Catalogue traditional practices Food processing,
    preservation / traditional recipes of food, etc.

realities
  • Students study traditional food processing
    practices and promote future possibilities
  • Students obtain first hand experience of Indian
    Rural scenario and facilitate the process of
    integrating the underprivileged sections of our
    population with the main stream.

A challenge facing the Indian food industry is
that 69 percent of this sector is unorganized and
majority of the people are still not aware and
informed of the 'good processing practices',
scientific storage practices, value addition
techniques and techniques for enhancement of
shelf life etc. This is where the Village
Adoption Programme is most relevant.
