Utilize MaterialsDay One
  • Students discuss prior knowledge of Edgar Allan
    Poe and his works
  • Hand out list of Literary Terms
  • Discuss items on the list
  • Hand out reading list, useful websites, and a
    copy of Cask of Amontillado that will be read
    for homework.

Day Two
  • In groups of four, students will research Poes
    life on the internet and answer set questions
    from an assigned web quest.
  • Students will be informed they need to pick a
    written work from the handout yesterday and make
    a collogue of their favorite scene, and create an
    alternate ending for the story they choose. These
    will be due on day five and day six.

Day Three
  • The class will watch the Simpsons version of
    The Raven.
  • Prompts will be made to extract from students
    literary techniques that they hear.
  • After the show, the class will discuss any
    questions or statements on other techniques they
    heard that were not brought up during the show.

Day Four
  • Class discussions will be held on The Cask of
    Amontillado and students will be able to express
    opinions or ask questions about the reading.
  • The rest of class will be left free for problems
    or questions about the two upcoming assignments.

Day Five
  • Students will present their collogues and give
    information on the story or poem they read.
  • Explanations for why they chose the work and
    scene will be stated to the class.
  • Questions will be asked by the class before the
    next presentation is given.

Day Six
  • Students will explain the ending of the story or
    poem they chose to read and then they will
    present the alternate ending they wrote.
  • Questions and comments will be made before the
    next presentation
  • Day seven will be left open for any one who did
    not have a chance to give their presentation.

  • Grades will be based on class participation, and

    and following directions on the collogue and
    writing assignment.
