Style Sheets

• Style sheets describe how documents are presented
  on screens, in print, or how they are pronounced.
• Before the existence of style sheets, html tags
  were used to add style to a document.
• This caused difficulties in separating the
  document content from the layout specifications
  in many websites.
• To solve this problem, the World Wide Web
  Consortium created the STYLES specification along
  with the HTML 4.0 specification.

Cascading Style Sheets

• The CSS specification is maintained and developed
  by the W3 Consortium.
• Two levels of specification, levels 1 and 2.
• Level 1 defines basic formatting components
• Level 2 expands on this with new features such as
  right to left text

Other Style Sheets

• XSL
• The W3 Consortium is currently developing the
  eXtensible Style Language (XSL). XSL builds on
  DSSSL and CSS and is primarily targeted for
  highly structured XML data. XSL only works with
  XML.
• DSSSL
• DSSSL is a document tree transformation and style
  language in with many adherents in the SGML
  community.
• CSS-DOM
• CSS Document Object Model defines how to
  manipulate CSS from a development environment
  within an application. CSS-DOM defines an
  abstract software library for implementing CSS
  tasks.

•       SIGWEB stands for Special Interest Group
  for Hypermedia, Hypertext and Web. The group is
  an associate of ACM that support structured
  knowledge management and field of hypermedia
  between industry and academic environment.
• Hypermedia Research Unit
•     One of the specialist hypermedia group in UK
  known as Hypermedia Research Unit at School of
  Computing, University of Glamorgan,UK. This
  groups particularly focuses on the cultural
  heritage and educational domains.
• Web Technology Research Group
•     WTRG is a research group at School of
  Computer Science and IT, University of
  Nottingham, UK. This group focuses on WWW,
  Hypertext and Online Learning. 
• Hypermedia Group of the Software Engineering
  Research Lab
•     This is group is a part of SERL group at
  University of Colorado, Boulder. They primarily
  focus on issues in the field of Hypermedia,
  Structural Computing and requirement
  traceability, information integration.
