Keys to Effective Action Planning
  • ACTION STEPS should be SMART specific,
    measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely
  • Be specific in assigning responsibility to a
PERSON/ENTITY for implementing each action step
  • TARGET DATES should be realistic

19
Good Goals and Action Statements
  • Focus on where you want to go
  • Speak to DEVELOPMENT GROWTH
  • DONT simply refer to sustaining what youre
already doing i.e., maintaining shelter, or
    continuing transitional housing
  • DO refer to activities that create, expand,
    increase, assess, or improve

20
Use of MAINSTREAM SUPPORTS for Homeless Response
  • Describe HOW mainstream resources are used to
    support fundamental component activities
    specifically targeted to homeless persons
  • Identify specific VALUE of resources (or number
of beds/units) provided exclusively in responding
    to homeless populations
  • Identify specific projects or at least the
number of projects supported if too many to
    identify
  • Do NOT include McKinney-Vento fund sources
  • MSHDA/MCAH will send out clarifying instructions
for completing this chart in early December

24
Why Coordinate Statewide Point-In-Time and Gaps
Analysis Count?
  • BETTER DATA WILL BETTER INFORM OUR ACTIONS TO
    CLOSE THE HOUSING GAP
  • If we cant generate decent data about the
distance between where we are and where we want
to be, how will we know when we get there?
  • Need to create consistency across community
    counts
  • Need to create consistency from one year to next
  • Workshop presentation that follows will elaborate
on definitions, expectations, and strategies for
point-in-time data collection and gaps analysis

25
Critical Community Needs
  • Identify critical challenges facing your
community in comprehensive community planning for
    ending homelessness

26
Attachment I-AMPCB CERTIFICATION
  • Certification to be signed by MPCB Chairperson
  • MPCB must certify that it has received and
    reviewed 2003-2005 Continuum Plan
  • MPCBs are NOT asked to approve or endorse
    plans

27
Why Do We Seek MPCB Review?
  • MPCBs provide increased opportunity for
    inter-agency relationship building and increasing
    access to mainstream services

28
Important Elements of MPCB Certification
  • Request for description of relationship between C
    of C and MPCB
  • Request for description of shared activities

29

    EXPERIENCE
