HASTY MORAL JUDGMENT
  • Definition
  • Moral judgment is an assessment of someone or
something is either positive or negative, correct
or incorrect. We formulate moral judgments on a
constant basis, and these are mostly influenced
by cultural habituation. Society makes judgments
rapidly. For example, we evaluate people on the
foundation of looks, ethnicity, social economic
status or associations. We as people judge
people on a stereotypical basis and on ignorance.
Hasty moral judgments are in essence non-rational
which is, unreasoned they direct the goals of
    critical thinking insight and understanding.

HASTY MORAL JUDGMENT
  • Examples of Hasty Moral Judgment
  • The two biggest examples of hasty moral judgment
in the United States in current times, and also
in the last few hundred years, are politics and
religion. These are two subjects that adults
often teach younger people not to discuss amongst
people you dont know well, and for a reason.
There are very few people in this country who
dont have strong moral beliefs towards either a
    religious group or something political.

HASTY MORAL JUDGMENT
  • Examples of Hasty Moral Judgment cont.
  • Most people learn about the government and
religion at home long before they start attending
school. Parents tend teach their children about
these subjects in a biased way, often without
even knowing they are doing so. Children are most
impressionable before the age of 6, so they
absorb their parents beliefs without the ability
to understanding the subject they believe in. The
children grow up not knowing there are other
    options.

HASTY MORAL JUDGMENT
  • Examples of Hasty Moral Judgment cont.
  • After a few years in elementary school, they
start to learn the basics of their government but
rarely the full spectrum of different governments
and politics. Unless they are in a private
school, religion may never be taught in school.
In the case of many private schools, the subjects
taught may be even more biased than the parents
    teachings.

HASTY MORAL JUDGMENTExamples of Hasty Moral
Judgment Cont.
  • Religion
  • politics
  • Many religions teach children that other
religions are wrong. I personally have attended
several churches of different sects where another
    religions ideals were bluntly contradicted,
often times without a good explanation. When
children are young, their elders often teach
them that adults are right and not to ask too
many questions, as young children can be quite
curious. By teaching this, children do not ask
why enough when it comes to religious beliefs.
They just assume that their elder family members
and the elder authorities in their religious
group are teaching them what is right and not
just what the adults believe to be right.
  • Political beliefs may not be as strongly pushed
as religion but it tends to be learned in
conjunction with many religions. If you look back
at the history of politics and government, most
wars were started due to either political
disagreements, religious beliefs or both. The
beliefs learned from your parents not only effect
your views on religion and politics, it effects
your views on anything and everything connected
to them in some small way including people. If
you meet a person with different views than
yours, you are subconsciously judging them based
on your idea that your views are right and theirs
are wrong. You might not give them a chance to
explain why they believe what they do or they
might not even know why they believe what they
do, being in the same situation as yourself.

HASTY MORAL JUDGMENT
  • Analysis/application
  • Let us break down what hasty moral judgment
really means. Hasty moving or acting with haste
speedy quick hurried. Moral of, pertaining to,
or acting on the mind, feelings, will, or
character. Judgment the forming of an opinion,
estimate, notion, or conclusion, as from
circumstances presented to the mind. I dont
believe you can put these words together and it
be successful. The problem is that its a quick
decision based on emotion. I think the only
solution to the problem is not reasonable. The
only way to put an end to hasty moral judgment is
to stop and take a second to really think about
what is going on and then proceed to analyze and
really make an educated decision. One way that
companies capitalize on people emotions is
through commercials. Such as the political
campaigns commercials, they slam on the other
candidate and sometimes make false statements.
They make these commercials to play upon peoples
emotions and it generally makes the people not
like the other candidate. This decision is based
on no real thought or proof of these allegations.
The only way to put a stop for this is for people
to either become better educated or they should
try to refrain from making decisions without
    really analyzing the situation.

HASTY MORAL JUDGMENT
  • Discussion of the medium(s)
  • Politics
  • People make decisions about which to vote for,
what is good for our country. Voters decide to
place people in positions of power, and in doing
so, they can shape the countries economics and
laws. If voters do this based on shallow values,
the judgment made about the candidates will have
been hasty. Leaders in every level of government
are required to make decisions that. Based on
emotions or fleeting desires that later may be
realized to be not the best decision.

HASTY MORAL JUDGMENTDiscussion of the medium(s)
cont.
  • Economics
  • Personal life
  • In relationships, plutonic or romantic, hasty
moral judgments occur when we dont asses
situations with care. If two friends are in a
fight and they put another friend in the middle,
that person must take care to hear both sides of
the argument. If that person were to do
otherwise, the risk of making a decision without
all the facts is far greater. Deciding to date,
marry, or otherwise become committed to someone
is a place where many people judge hastily.
Weather it is because of a longing for
companionship or just looking to have fun, when
judging a persons attributes and faults keeping
off the rose colored glasses can be hard, but if
those glasses are kept on, it can result in a
    judging a persons character incorrectly.
  • Everyone from the president to the common man
runs the risk of making hasty moral judgments in
the area of economics. Deciding where money is
best spent without logical study can result in
financial problems. Deciding to give money to a
charity because it sounds good without looking at
where the money is going to be spent is judging
the charity based on a surface value without
knowing what is really going on.
