• Objective of the Project
• Implement an IPv6 operational network at a
  national level to prepare for the progressive
  transition (/integration) to IPv6 in Tunisia.

• First Step get an IPv6 experimental address
  block (3FFE/48) and establish a connection with
  6Bone (since 1997).
• Consider different transition techniques
• tunneling techniques, to avoid dependencies
  when upgrading hosts, routers, or regions ?
  tunnel brokers
• dual-stack techniques, to allow IPv4 and IPv6
  to co-exist in the same devices and networks
• translation techniques, to allow IPv6-only
  devices to communicate with IPv4-only devices,

• 2 possible scenarios for installing a DNSv6
• 1- Upgrade the .tn TLD root DNS necessary but
  needs to change the whole DNS platform (servers,
  routers,)
• 2- install a secondary DNS wich will be linked to
  IPv6 and IPv4 networks and enable AAAA records in
  the TLD server.

Sub-TLA request (RIPE)
IPv6 Deployment in Tunisia

• Pseudo-Top Level Aggregator (p-TLA) submitted to
  the 6Bone in august 2002 (to become a node of
  6bone local tunnel broker)
• Change of deployment strategy to follow the
  recommendations from 6bone and RIPE (phaseout of
  the 6Bone planning)
• Submission of a Sub-TLA (Sub Top Level
  Aggregator) request to RIPE with a deployment
  plan (September 2002)
• Allocation of an IPv6 address block to ATI (LIR
  for Tunisia) 2001970/32 in October 2002

  all interested stakeholders
• IPv6 Workshop for the Task Force members
• IPv6 conference (April 2003)

• Draw an action plan for IPv6 deployment for the
  two upcoming years

• Draw a migration strategy and an IPv6
  deployment program on a national level
  (assessment of IPv6 support for ISPs and Telecoms
  network equipements and applications)
• Install a national IPv6 Backbone and consider a
  native IPv6 connection (ATI, Tunisie Telecom)
  with Flag Telecom
• Prepare a program for IPv6 awareness building
  and training
• consider the opportunity to participate in IPv6
  international initiatives and technical working
  groups

• All new equipment (routers, servers, software,)
  purchasing takes into account IPv6 support
• After assessing the actual infrastructure and
  equipments new equipments (IPv6 enabled access
  servers, routers, applications) will be installed
  during 2004 to provide IPv6 serversto customers
• Launching of an IPv6 multicast project by CCK
  (ISP for universities) and Renater France

What Next ?
IPv6 Deployment in Tunisia

• IPv6 full deployment at the primary DNS level
  ns.ati.tn and ns2.ati.tn
• Start providing IPv6 connectivity and IPv6
  services (E-mail, web,(Leased lines, ADSL) to
  customers in 2004
• Add IPv6 suppot on the national IPv4 backbone
