1Leadership and Motivation
- Dave Triplett, MIPGM Richard Roblee, MIPGM
2The cycles of life and the lifecycles of
organizations have three things in common
- A Period of - Growth
- A Period of Stability
- Followed by
- A Period of Decline
3Growth
- That period of time in which a creature or
organization grows or matures
growth
4Stability
- Stability That period of time in which the
organization is mature and keeps the status quo.
Stability
5Decline
- The end of the lifecycle for the organization or
creature. When it is limited and becomes less
viable.
Decline
6Stopping the Cycle
How to prevent the extinction of an organization
7- Changes in the organization which significantly
moves it into the growth cycle.Examples - Our Eagle and DDT.
- Boise School District and open enrollment.
- Operative lodges to Speculative lodges.
8Retooling and Reinvention
- Or How to bring an organization back from the
brink of extinction
9Stories of extinction
- The Wooly Mammoth
- Allis Chalmers
10Stories of Success
- Girl Scouts
- Public Education
- Microsoft
- Horse
- Honey bees
- Others?
11Tao Te Ching
- Natures Ways are needed to perfect the changes
upon which an organization survives(observe and
follow) - Give birth to it and nourish it.Produce it but
don't possess it.Act without expectation.Excel,
but don't take charge. This is called Mysterious
Virtue.(Lao Tzu)
12Mission Statementsincludes
- High Points of an organization
- Where it is going and where it comes from in as
few ideas and words as possible
13Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth
14Christ approach to this in his last statement was
to love one another as I have loved you. This
can be seen as the mission statement of a
Christian.
15Break Out Session 1
- Develop a mission statement for York Rite
Masonry. What is it and what is its purpose for
being?
16Developing the tools necessary for survival,
change, and the implementation of the mission
statement.
17Enthusiasm

you cant be Enthusiastic, act Enthusiastic.
18Praise and Criticism
- Gently Admonish
- Use the Complement technique
- Positive statements before the reformation
- Let the rose bloom and not be a control addict.
Most of us already know when we have made a
mistake.

- Understanding the organization
- How and when to change that organization.
- When to refocus on the basics
20The Types of Change
- What is change
- The reasons for change
- Who are we changing
- Where do we want to go
21Recognize
- That no unified or single idea of what Masonry is
and what it does. Can there be? - No one speaks for all Masons. Is this a good
thing? - The best changes are the changes we can make at
the local or at most the state level.
22Recognize
- York Rite Masonry is by its very nature dependant
on the Masonic Lodge for its membership.
23Brainstorming
- Ideas must be implementable at the local or state
levels. - Ideas cannot cost lots of money to implement.
- 3) Ideas must be scalable and work in both small
and large lodges. - 4) Ideas must accomplish the goals of the mission
statement
24Break Out Sessions 2
- In the groups, discuss ideas to bring about the
changes you think the fraternity needs and
therefore positively effect York Rite Masonry. - Record suggestions and Ideas
- Bring them to the whole group
