What caused it to happen?

• At the end of the cold war, Germany and Berlin
  was each divided in to four zones.
• Western powers had helped in economic and
  political recovery in their zones. (France,
  Britain, America and Russia)
• The three western powers came to a single
  economic unit leaving out the Russian zone.
• The West wanted all four zones to unite and give
  self government as soon as possible.
• The Russians went against the idea and wanted to
  keep the Russian zone under its own communist,
  pro-Russian government.

• The western zone kept on alarming Stalin about
  re-uniting the zones.
• In June 1948 the western zone made new currencies
  and ended price controls in the zone and in
  Western Berlin.
• Stalin was fed up with capitalism and prosperity
  of western Berlin decided to separated the
  remaining area with a wall.

• April 15, 1961, The first generation wall was
  built, separating the western powers and west
  Berlin from the east Berlin (Russian Zone).
• The first wall was built in August 13, 1961. It
  was built with concrete and large square blocks.
• The Second generation wall was built in June 1962
  to prevent people of the east from escaping to
  the west.
• The first and second generation wall was removed
  in 1965 when the third generation wall was built
• 1975 The Fourth generation wall was built
  replacing the third.

Postdam Conference
The Postdam Conference took place on July 17
1945. In this conference the division of Germany
took place. Stalin took his part of Germany and
held it under his communism rule. This conference
and the Yalta conference are key events that lead
to the Berlin Wall going up.
Key People
Key people who played a role in the Berlin wall
is Stalin of Russia. He is the one who caused the
Berlin wall to go up and one who separated the
west and east Berlin. His disagreement in the
Postdam and Yalta conference lead to the Berlin
wall event.

The Fall

• The Fall of the wall started on November 10 1989.
  Potsdamer Platz was the first place where the
  wall was opened following that was wall
  woodpeckers.
• On July 1 1990, East and Western Berlin was
  united.
• The wall was completely disappeared in 1991.
