Overall Objective
- (From the Board Task Force on Tech. Programming)
- - To enhance the value of the Society to its
members and potential members by developing and
offering technical conferences that are topically
focused, cover interdisciplinary emerging areas,
address core competencies, and are job-related.

- The intent of the Board and of senior management
in ACS is that these conferences should
supplement, not duplicate or compete with, the
programs produced by ACS technical divisions.

- Registration fees ranged from 1,595 to 1,995
- Attracted 185 paid registrants

- Divisions represented BMGT, INOR, POLY, ORGN,
CINF, BIOT, MEDI - The conference did not directly compete with my
divisions programming. - I established useful contacts for future
division activities. - I received a good overview of combinatorial
chemistry.

- Address emerging or rapidly- changing fields
- Emphasize the applied aspects of the
information emerging in a subject area - Attract a minimum of 175 paid registrants

- 50 or more of registrants should work in
industry - All speakers (15-20) must be invited
- Minimum time for each speaker is 30 minutes,
plus 15 minutes of Q A

Conferences
- Define broad field/focus (e.g. gene
modification/food) - Suggest title, chair(s) and session topics
- Provide a list speakers to be invited
- Suggest a conference date, e.g. Fall/2002
- Project percentage of industry registrants you
anticipate will register - Provide a contact person for follow-up
