NON-SKID FLOORING HOW ITS MADE
Warehouse and factory work settings receive a
great deal of tread throughout the workday. But
with frequent slips and spills interfering with
production, floors can quickly become hazardous.
From pools to garage floors, non-skid flooring is
an absolute necessity. Whether youre looking to
coat the floor of a commercial establishment or
your personal residence, these non-skid
coating techniques will deliver a durable finish
for secure footing. Fifty percent of all
facility accidents are attributed to
under-prepared flooring. These accidents can cost
companies copious amounts of cash in liability
claims. To avoid painful injuries and
inconvenient employee costs, make sure your
flooring is coated correctly.

Non-skid flooring will keep your workers safe and
give you the peace of mind that your
organizations bustling schedule will run as
smoothly as possible. The professionals at Kramer
Industries are experts in non-skid flooring
applications. Weve outlined the basics of the
creation process to give our clients a look into
the professional world of finishing. Preparation
of the floor surface is critical. Understanding
how heavy a surface profile you need for the best
adhesion of the coating is necessary. Work with
your coating supplier to know this important
information. Floor prep can be done in a few
different ways. We recommend blasting the floor
with either Steel Shot, Aluminum Oxide Grit, or
KramBlast Crushed Glass Grit will provide the
most efficient and economical results. Once the
required surface profile is known, we can help
identify the appropriate abrasive media. The
coating with the non-skid abrasive is applied
generally in two different ways. One way is to
blend the grit into the coating and then apply it
to the floor. This method requires a coating that
is either thick enough so the solids dont sink
or a process that keeps the grit properly
suspended in the coating.

The second application method involves applying
the coating, then broadcast grit onto the coating
while still tacky. This requires you to complete
smaller sections at a time, but often provides a
more controlled process and more even results. A
thinner top coating is then applied to lock the
particles into the coating. The selection of
grit to be used requires an understanding of the
type of traffic on the floor (i.e., equipment vs.
foot traffic), the thickness of the coating to be
put down, the needed durability of the grit
itself, as well as other site-specific issues
that could be relevant. Understanding your
requirements will help us in an abrasive grit
recommendation to get the most durable and
effective non-skid floor. Kramer Industries are
experts in surface finishing techniques. As
experts in the finishing industry, were highly
skilled in helping get the optimal non-skid floor
result. Reach out to our team today to inquire
