Title: Why an entrepreneurial mass movement?
1Why an entrepreneurialmass movement?
2Why an entrepreneurialmass movement?
- The yearly remittances of our OFWs have reached
14 billion - These remittances sustain 1/3 of the population
- If used properly, these remittances amount to
enough capital for family enterprises
3Imagine
- One million entrepreneurs earning 14,000 net
yearly - That would mean another 14 billion of income
yearly - To support another third of the population!
4The problem is HOW?
- Let us go through the steps one by one
- And see how a miracle can be performed
- For the purpose of fulfilling our mission of
- NATIONAL TRANSFORMATION
5What is an entrepreneur?
- One who expends his/her LABOR and the labor of
others - On whatever RAW MATERIALS are available in
his/her area - To come out with PRODUCTS that can be sold
- For a reasonable PROFIT.
6An entrepreneur is NOT
- An employee, whether manager or worker
- A politician
- A government official
- A landlord, whether urban or rural
- A rent-seeker
- AN ENTREPRENEUR TURNS OUT CONCRETE PRODUCTS THAT
CAN BE BOUGHT SOLD FOR A PROFIT
7What kind of products?
- As simple as banana cue
- As high-tech as software
- As popular as tsitsiria
- As innovative as virgin coconut oil
- As commonplace as consultative services
8Whatever
- The entrepreneur is
- Comfortably gifted with
- Enjoys
- Can get his/her family friends to do
- Raw materials are available in the area
- Capital can be had without pawning anything for
it
9What basic skills are necessary?
- How to produce the product quickly and cheaply
(production process) - How to handle the people needed in turning out
the product (management) - How to balance the books (bookkeeping,
accounting) - How to sell the product (marketing)
10Can these four skills be shared?
- Certainly.
- A module can be constructed for each skill.
- They can also be learned through practice.
11Okay, lets say I can do it.
- But what for?
- Why should I risk my neck in business
- When this government will just ruin it?
12Because
- Corruption comes from rent-seeking
- And only entrepreneurship, once it has become
widespread, - Can stop rent-seeking
- And with it, corruption.
13What is rent-seeking?
- Rent-seeking is the tendency to expect payment
for the use of property. - It is a very comfortable life because all one has
to do to get money is to sit and wait. - But one has to have property in the first place
to do that.
14So whats wrong with rent-seeking?
- The problem with rent-seeking is that
- It encourages laziness
- Very few have properties, so very few can be
rent-seekers - Therefore very few can live comfortably
15The bigger problem with rent-seeking is
- When it is a national lifestyle, nobody wants to
work - Everybody wants only easy money
- The whole population is unproductive
- Very few are capable of creating wealth
- And those few can therefore exploit the rest
16And the biggest problem with rent-seeking is
- The wish to become wealthy without working is
turned on government - And government becomes the target of
rent-seeking, - Turning it into a milking cow
- From the national levels up to the lowly barangay!
17The culture of rent-seeking
- is the reason why we have corruption!
- The culture of rent-seeking is the culprit behind
- our culture of poverty!
18So how do we combat rent-seeking?
- Through entrepreneurship.
- By generating an entrepreneurial mass movement,
- We can show the greater population
- How to create wealth
- Legitimately
- Honestly
- By dint of hard work
19But our government is so corrupt!
- Therefore let us find the best way of cleaning up
government. Through an entrepreneurial mass
movement.
20How will we clean up government?
- NATIONAL RENEWAL PROGRAM
- in the private and public sectors, through formal
and informal education channels, emphasizing
righteousness and national transformation. - GRASSROOTS ENTREPRENEURSHIP
- through public and private school education and
informal community training
21Those are the main points of our 10-point program
- Government can encourage entrepreneurship by
- Creating a one-stop SEC-City/Town-BIR Bizreg
Center in every city and town - Setting up entrepreneurial high schools
- Organizing an entrepreneurial community campaign
especially in places with OFW families - Teaching OFWs the basics of entrepreneurship
22Can we do it?
- Because we represent the 1/3 of the Filipino
people who are sick tired of the present
situation - And want to do something about it.
- Something POSITIVE.
- Something TRANSFORMATIVE.
- Something that will last us the nations
lifetime.
23Can a nation be changed?
- Yes! A nation can change!
- Once the people grasp
- What has to be done away with
- And what has to replace it.
24We wish to replace
- the culture of rent-seeking
- which is otherwise called the Spirit of
Corruption - which is inextricably linked to the Spirit of
Poverty. - Through Entrepreneurship, we can wipe out the
twin evils of Corruption Poverty!
25We will replace the twin evils of Corruption
Poverty through
- One million entrepreneurs who will through their
success in business convince millions more to
give up the culture of rent-seeking
26That is why, even now
- We can already generate an entrepreneurial mass
movement - Among our ranks
- Among our friends and supporters
- Within the entire nation, whether in the
Philippines or abroad
27Because we love our nation
- And we know that this is what God wants us to do.
28Bangon, OFW!
- Kilos na!
- Nasa iyo ang pag-asa!
