  • PROCESS BY WHICH AN AUTHORATIVE BODY GIVES FORMAL

    CARRY OUT SPECIFIC TASKS

The purpose of Accreditation

    education

    education

  • Principles of Accreditation Foundations for
    Quality Enhancement

5
Excerpts From the SACS Principles of
Accreditation
  • Quality Enhancement
  • The Commission on Colleges expects institutions
to dedicate themselves to enhancing the quality
of their programs and services within the context
of their missions, resources, and capabilities
and creating an environment in which teaching,
research and learning occurs. The concept of
quality enhancement is at the heart of the
    Commissions philosophy of accreditation this
presumes each member institution is engaged in an
ongoing program of improvement and can
demonstrate how well it fulfills its stated
    mission.

6
Excerpts From the SACS Principles of
Accreditation (continued)
  • Quality Enhancement
  • Core requirement 12 requires an institution to
develop an acceptable Quality Enhancement Plan
(QEP) and show that the plan is part of an
    ongoing planning and evaluation process.
Engaging the wider academic community, the QEP is
based upon a comprehensive and thorough analysis
of the effectiveness of the learning environment
    for supporting student achievement and
accomplishing the mission of the institution. It
is used to outline a course of action for
    institutional improvement by addressing an
    issue-or issues- that contributes to
institutional quality, with special attention to
    student learning.

7
What is the Quality Enhancement Plan?
  • A carefully designed and focused course of
    action
  • Addressing a well-defined topic or issue
  • Related to improving the quality of student
    learning
  • Complements the institutions ongoing integrated,
    institution-wide planning and evaluation process
  • Goals should be clearly related to student
    learning
  • Strategies for evaluation should be linked to
    learning outcomes for students
  • The QEP is a tool for institutional improvement

8
What are some basic elements of a QEP?
  • A topic critical to the institution focused on
    improvement of student learning
  • Evidence of engagement of appropriate campus
    constituencies
  • Specific, well-defined goals
  • A broad-based, holistic view of student learning
  • A variable implementation plan
