8Legislative Mandates
- Senate Bill 433
- The bill mandates classified staff be furloughed
one day a month for the 24 months of the biennium - The Board of Regents of the University of Nevada
shall determine and implement the method which - The professional employees of the Nevada System
of Higher Education will participate in the
furlough requirement pursuant to this section - The overall costs for the professional employees
of the Nevada System of Higher Education will be
reduced in an amount at least equal to the
savings which would have otherwise been produced
by furlough leave pursuant to this section
9NSHE Mandates Salary Adjustments
Title 2, Chapter 5, Section 5.5.7 the Board of
Regents does hereby and for the 2009-2011
biennium only, temporarily reduce salaries
through the use of unpaid leave in an amount
equivalent to the amount of legislative salary
cut for FY2011.

- Classified staff
- SB 433 mandates 96 hours of unpaid furlough leave
yearly - Requires 8 hours unpaid furlough per month
- Less than full-time classified employees
prorated - 4.6 percent during fiscal year 2010 and 2011
- Non-tenured faculty
- 4.6 percent cut during fiscal year 2011
- Administrative, tenure-track, research and
temporary faculty - Administrators with underlying tenure deans and
above - Tenured faculty increased productivity
- All benefits are protected.
11Brief Update
- Enrollment
- 2,197 new freshmen enrolled in classes
- 10 more national merit students 28 total
- 80 presidential scholars enrolled this fall
- Summer Orientation
- 1,800 new freshmen registered for orientation
- Smaller groups of students and parents here for
two days, living in the halls and experiencing
campus - Strong focus on academics as well as student life
- Increases yield and sets the expectations
