Audio Syndication
When this became a popular technique, it made
more sense to have a page with just the appropria
te information on it.
An adequately clever program could read the web
pages and pull off just the information they need
ed, saving its users the effort of looking thems
elves.
This format is called Really Simple Syndication,
or RSS. The programs which use it to pull down
files are called aggregators.
Before syndication, this was done by making a web
page where listeners could select the pieces that

they wanted to listen to and download them.
This information is formatted and tagged so that
the computer program understands what its lookin
g at.

RSS Files

• An RSS file represents an information
• feed to a specific audience
• Messages from upper management to their staff
• Process updates to all employees on a team or in
  a specific job class
  
• 401(k) news to all 401(k) subscribers
• Meeting minutes to project stakeholders

RSS feed management
When new entries are added, an aggregator
will collect the file that it indicates.
Removing files from a feed will not remove them
from the aggregators computer.
If you change the date of a feed the aggregator
can
download the new version, replacing the old.
An RSS file contains one entry for each release.

Outline Processor Markup Language (OPML)
This allows for users feeds to be managed
through a web accessible interface both by the re
cipient and by an administrator.
These feed addresses are usually stored
and managed by the aggregator.
An RSS feed is identified by a resource locator
similar to a web address.
Using OPML, however, the aggregator can be told
to
get its list of feeds from an outside source.
