Summer Row
  • 300million expansion of city centre's retail
    core by 2010.
  • Subject to approval from Secretary of State after
    Public Inquiry. Decision expected by end of
    January 2008.
  • Multi Development UK Ltd is the partner for
    redevelopment of 8 acre site bordered by
    Cleveland Street, Snow Hill, Temple Street and
    Worcester Street.
  • Mixed-use commercial, residential and leisure
    development will see the building of a flagship
    Debenhams department store.
  • Includes 86 other retail units, 800-space
    underground car park, residential accommodation,
    bars, restaurants, new public squares and iconic
    building to house cinema and other uses

Interchange Project
  • Work will begin on the citys prestigious 200m
    Interchange Project in 2008.
  • This impressive development will be a huge boost
    for Wolverhamptons growing status as a regional
    business and leisure venue.
  • The Interchange will provide a new railway
    station linked to a remodelled bus station along
    with office, residential, leisure and commercial
    development.
  • Public consultation begins shortly.

City Centre
  • Work is nearly finished on an attractive paving
    and lighting scheme to refurbish the
    pedestrianised areas of the city centre.
  • Work is already complete in Dudley Street, where
    high quality, attractive new paving, lighting and
    public seating provide a superb makeover for the
    citys main shopping area.
  • Queen Square in the heart of the city will soon
    be transformed into a very attractive public area
    with new seating and lighting along with a
    distinctive water feature and illuminated public
    art, all based around the historic statue of
    Prince Albert.

i54 business park
  • 90-hectare i54 site on the boundary of South
    Staffordshire and Wolverhampton earmarked for a
    technology-based business park.
  • Master plan for site at Wobaston Road, Pendeford,
    sets out vision for a 2.5m sq ft development to
    provide first-class facilities for businesses and
    help create more than 6,000 jobs by 2020.
  • Consultants have been engaged to prepare a
    marketing strategy to attract a development
    partner - marketing for this due to begin early
    2008.

Wolverhampton Homes
  • Wolverhampton Homes is an Arms Length Management
    Organisation (ALMO) set-up in 2005 to manage the
    councils 22,300 homes.
  • Achieved a two-star rating from the Audit
    Commission in November 2007.
  • Rating unlocked 400m to improve council homes
    under the Governments Decent Homes programme.
    Less than half of council homes currently meet
    the standard.
  • Money from Government 288m is supported by
    100m from the council.
  • New bathrooms, kitchens, central heating,
    re-wiring and other improvements will bring all
    homes up to scratch by 2012.

Building Schools for the Future
  • 300m investment in Wolverhamptons secondary
    schools
  • Transforming secondary education to equip every
    child in the city with the skills to succeed and
    prosper in the 21st century
  • Highfields Science Specialist School, Heath Park
    Business and Enterprise College, Pennfields
    School and Tettenhall Wood School will be rebuilt
  • Two new city academies in Bilston and the north
    of the city

  • 22 month programme delivered in 3 phases, with a
    planned completion date of December 2008.

  • Wolverhampton City Council is selecting a Partner
    to assist in transforming its approach from a
    traditional service-led to an outcome-focused
    organisation

it does, offering VFM throughout

  • Restructuring the Council organisation, its
    processes and methods, to improve access to,
    quality, efficiency and effectiveness of,
    services provided to the customer
  • Upgrading IT to make effective and efficient use

    and productivity

    organisation, helping to deliver the medium-term
    financial strategy

    self-funding and deliver savings which contribute
    directly to the medium term financial strategy
  • There will be substantial investment in the
    Transformation Programme, anticipated to deliver
    cashable benefits in excess of 100m over a 10
    year partnership
