2NPO Overview
Community Alliance of Lane County (CALC) is a
grassroots organization that began in 1966 as a
local chapter of Clergy and Laymen Concerned
about Vietnam (CALCAV), which was a group of 100
clergy members who met in New York in 1965 to
discuss how they could mobilize against the
Vietnam War. With leadership from diverse
communities, CALC today works in a multi-issue,
anti-racist way on social justice issues.
Mission Statement CALC's mission is to work for
a society free of bigotry, upholding human rights
and human dignity. CALC seeks to educate, promote
and mobilize individuals, groups and movements
who are committed to peace and justice. CALC
works to promote public policies based on social
and economic justice.
3NPO Overview
- Some of the CALCs programs
- Back To Back - defends human rights and promotes
human dignity. - Springfield Alliance for Equality and Respect
(SAfER) - builds a constituency for human
rights, responds when abuses occur and assists
public institutions in addressing social justice
issues. - The Committee for Countering Military Recruitment
- works with high schools in Lane County and
their families and mentors of the realities of
military service and to expose the misinformation
provided by military recruiters. - The Draft, Selective Service and Conscientious
Objection Program - expands or contracts
depending on the demand and provides accurate
information about a military draft, registering
for Selective Service and about how to prepare
to present a conscientious objection claim should
a draft re-occur. - Progressive Responses (PR) - challenges U.S.
foreign policy in Iraq and elsewhere, opposes
the assault on civil liberties, pushes for the
development of non-military approaches to
stopping conflict and makes connections between
the Iraq War, U.S. oil consumption and global
warming.
4Target Audience
Youth - We targeted the younger MySpace
Generation by creating accounts for CALC on
both MySpace and Facebook, which the younger
crowd would more likely come across than the
CALC homepage. They can also gain access to the
CALC homepage through the pages on the
networking sites. Donors - The site is tailored
to inform current and future donors about the
different causes and program CALC sponsors.
Hopefully more people will become choose to give
when they are more informed about the
organization. Already Involved - The site is
also tailored to the individuals who are already
involved with CALC, whether they are staff
members or just supporters. These people can
find photos of previous events they might have
attended or find out about new events they can
attend.
5Finishing The Project
We finished the website. The updating and upkeep
will be up to CALC to maintain. Also, the upkeep
to the Myspace and Facebook pages will also be up
to them CALC is looking for a web intern to
help them with all this web maintenance. If you
are interested, go to the website under the Get
Involved button for more information.
6What We Did SUMMARY OF WEBSITE PRODUCTION
Week 1 We were introduced to our group members
and appointed our non- profit organization to
help. Week 2 Anselmo Villanueva, CALCs
Executive Director, discussed what his
expectations were with us, which gave us a
starting point to launch our project. He wanted
us to update and organize CALCs current
website and make it more user-friendly. He also
requested for use to make a video to put on the
website. Week 3 We looked through several
websites Anselmo said he liked to get an idea
for the layout and design of our site. Week 4 We
launched our project by submitting our project
treatment, explaining how we would makeover the
website. Week 5 We started putting the
information we had together on Dreamweaver and
drafted a rough design for the homepage, which we
used as a cascading style sheet for our
remaining pages.
7What We Did A SUMMARY OF WEBSITE PRODUCTION
Week 6 We crafted a rough flow chart, showing
how the flow through the web pages would would
work and what would be linked to each other. Week
7 We gathered more information and photos from
CALC events to display on the site. Week 8 We
turned in what we had up to this point as a
draft project. We also met again with Anselmo
to show what we had up to this point. He gave us
feedback on what he did and didnt like so that
we could change it accordingly. Week 9 We made
the changes Anselmo requested and continued to
build the site and work our the kinks. Week 10
We fixed all broken links and put the finishing
touches on what we were capable of doing with
our Dreamweaver knowledge.
8What We Did CHANGED LOGO
OLD NEW
We decided that CALCs old logo looked old and
not very professional. We gave it an update by
simply placing the name over the acronym and
getting rid of the cheesy border. The font and
color scheme remain, but now the logo has a much
more professional, up-to-date look.
9What We Did CHANGED LAYOUT
OLD NEW
We gave the new website a more friendly,
welcoming homepage by adding a horizontal menu
bar under the header. This allows the user to
easily scroll over each subject to find a pull
down list underneath it. We modeled this layout
after the U of O homepage because we liked the
simplicity of it. We also used the layout for the
other pages on our site.
10What We Did CHANGED CALENDAR
OLD NEW
We updated the calendar by making it more
visually appealing by adding photos to represent
the events that are occurring each month. We also
made it possible to look at the past, present and
future months, which users were unable to do on
the old website.
11What We Did MADE A TIMELINE
We made a timeline to display the history of
CALCAV and Lane Countys local CALC chapter. By
adding images, and using an interactive timeline
format, we made it easy for the user to navigate
through CALCs history.
12What We Did MADE FB MS PAGES
We made Myspace and Facebook pages to target
younger people to get them involved and inform
them about CALC.
