4 Year Graduation RateDavis HS vs 4 Comparison
High Schools
Davis High School in Houston has shown steady
improvement in the percentage of 9th graders that
graduate 4 years later. In 1997, 44.8 of the 9th
grade class from 4 years earlier graduated. In
2003 the graduation rate of 9th graders increased
to 64.3. These graduation rate increases are
significantly higher than the historical
trendline for high schools within the district
that have student bodies with similar
demographics and socio-economic status as Davis.
We see that the average graduation rate for these
comparison schools (Milby, Furr, Lee, Austin)
stays relatively constant, and significantly
lower than that of Davis over the past several
years.

Davis GRAD Scholars Average
A study of the first 8 classes of GRAD scholars
shows that 46 of them completed college 4 to 8
years after enrollment. In contrast, according
to a national study by the U.S. Dept. of
Education, only 27 of low income students
across the country completed college 4 to 8 years
after enrollment. This indicates that Davis
graduates, 91 of whom are low income, complete
college at a rate 70 above the national low
income average.

SchoolPercentage Increase in Graduation
1997(Year before GRAD) to 2000-2003(First Three
Classes of GRAD Scholars)
In 1996-1997 ( the year before implementation),
158 students graduated from Shabazz high school.
Project GRAD raised the number of graduates to an
average of 200 students between 2000 and 2003,
which were the first three years of graduating
scholars. This represents a 26.3 increase in the
size of the graduating class. During the same
time frame, the size of the districts graduating
class remained relatively constant.
