What Will Be Covered
  • In the slides to come we will talk about standard
    number 1926 subpart C which is General and Safety
    Provisions. There will be 10 standards that will
    be listed and objectives discussed throughout the
    presentation.

Objectives
  • The following slides will cover the objectives
    and details of each of the OSHA standards that
    have previously been listed. These objectives are
    for the health and safety of employees in the
    work force.

Safety Training and Education
  • There should be established and supervised
    programs for the education and training of
    employers and employees in the recognition,
    avoidance and prevention of unsafe conditions in
    employments covered by the act.

Recording and Reporting of Injuries
  • Once an injury or accident has occurred it needs
    to immediately be reported and recording in there
    files. This way they can obtain the cause of the
    accident and do their best to prevent the
    incident from happening again.

First Aid and Medical Attention
  • First aid services and provisions for medical
    care shall be made available by the employer for
    every employee covered by these regulations.

Fire Protection and Prevention
  • The employer shall be responsible for the
    development and maintenance of an effective fire
    protection and prevention program at the job site
    throughout all phases of the construction,
    repair, alteration, or demolition work.

Housekeeping
  • During the course of construction, alteration,
    or repairs, form and scrap lumber with protruding
    nails, and all other debris, shall be kept
    cleared from work areas, passageways, and stairs,
    in and around buildings or other structures.

Housekeeping (cont.)
  • Containers shall be provided for the collection
    and separation of waste, trash, oily and used
    rags, and other refuse. Containers used for
    garbage and other oily, flammable, or hazardous
    wastes, such as caustics, acids, harmful dusts,
    etc. shall be equipped with covers. Garbage and
    other waste shall be disposed of at frequent and
    regular intervals.

Illumination
  • Construction areas, aisles, stairs, ramps,
    runways, corridors, offices, shops, and storage
    areas where work is in progress shall be lighted
    with either natural or artificial illumination.

Sanitation of Water
  • Portable containers used to dispense drinking
    water shall be capable of being tightly closed,
    and equipped with a tap. Water shall not be
    dipped from containers. Any container used to
    distribute drinking water shall be clearly marked
    as to the nature of its contents. The common
    drinking cup is prohibited.

Personal Protective Equipment
  • The employer is responsible for requiring the
    wearing of appropriate personal protective
    equipment in all operations where there is an
    exposure to hazardous conditions or where this
    part indicates the need for using such equipment
    to reduce the hazards to the employees.

Means of Egress
  • In every building or structure exits shall be so
    arranged and maintained as to provide free and
    unobstructed egress from all parts of the
    building or structure at all times when it is
    occupied. No lock or fastening to prevent free
    escape from the inside of any building shall be
    installed except in mental, penal, or corrective
    institutions where supervisory personnel is
    continually on duty and effective provisions are
    made to remove occupants in case of fire or other
    emergency.

Employee Emergency Action Plans
  • The emergency action plan shall be in writing
    and shall cover those designated actions
    employers and employees must take to ensure
    employee safety from fire and other emergencies.
