QIS and the British Education System
  • In Years 7 to 9 students follow the National
Curriculum of England and Wales. Subjects are
reported in Levels, from 3 to 8
  • In Years 10 and 11 students follow the GCSE/IGCSE
programmes run by the Cambridge and Edexcel exam
boards. Subject results are recorded in Grades,
    from U to A
  • In Years 12 and 13 students follow Advanced Level
examinations. At the end of Year 12, students sit
AS exams in Year 13 they sit A2 Exams to achieve
    full A Level.
  • Subject results are recorded in Grades, from U to
    A

4
QIS Reports
  • The reporting system has three main aims
  • To maximise communication with parents
  • To give useful regular feedback to students and
    parents
  • To identify areas of concern early, to allow time
    for change

5
The Reporting System
  • Students receive a report approximately every six
    weeks
  • Mid-term reports contain information on effort
    and areas of concern
  • Full-term reports contain information on attained
Levels/Grades for the term as well as information
about effort and areas of concern
  • End of Year Reports offer detailed information
Years 11 and 12 receive these before they sit
    external exams
  • Years 7 to10 also receive an Exam Results Sheet
    in June

6
Our Expectations
  • We value, above all else, our students effort
and their willingness to be positive members of
    the school community
  • Students are expected to work to the best of
their ability at all times in all the subjects
    they study
  • We monitor the Key Areas of behaviour, homework,
    motivation and concentration
  • We expect our students to behave responsibly and
to follow school rules and procedures at all
    times

7
Our Expectations Regarding Effort
  • All Reports comment on Effort as follows
  • Excellent all homework and classwork completed
to a high standard the student is fully involved
in lessons and actively asks and answers
    questions excellent behaviour
  • Good mostly as above, but with grounds for
    improvement
  • Satisfactory 80 of homework and classwork is
completed, but not to a high standard the
student only answers questions when asked is
    reprimanded for behaviour on occasions
  • Poor Less than 80 of homework and classwork is
completed, to a low standard the student rarely
    answers questions many behaviour problems
  • Very Poor putting little or no effort into
classwork or homework not contributing in class
    presents a serious behaviour problem
  • We expect our students to attain Effort ratings
of Good or higher in all their subjects

8
Our Requirements
  • Behaviour and Effort
  • A consistent good Effort and Behavioural record.
  • Students with poor Effort ratings and areas of
concern on their report will be issued with a
    Warning Letter
  • Attendance Must be above 90
  • Punctuality Must be above 80
  • All Year 12 and 13 students sign a Contract
    agreeing to these minimum requirements

9
Qatar Ministry Requirements
  • At present, to complete High School Education
under the British System in Qatar and gain
    Equivalency, the Ministry requires
  • 5 A to C passes at IGCSE level
  • 2 A to E passes at AS
  • AS Art and Classical Arabic are not definitely
    certified by the Ministry
  • Currently the Ministry does not recognise
vocational courses (BTEC, CIDA), placing greater
importance on the need for good IGCSE results to
    enter AS Level

10
University Requirements
  • Most universities and colleges require students
to have attained at least 5 C grades or higher at
GCSE / IGCSE level. Better universities and
colleges require higher grades. SAT and TOEFL are
    a standard requirement for most.
  • International Universities vary in their entrance
requirements it is best to investigate these
    depending on your specific situation.
  • In Qatar, colleges such as CHN and College of
North Atlantic base entry mostly on IGCSE
results, but completion of Year 12 is required.
  • The academic universities at Education City in
Qatar now mostly require full A Level for entry
some may take AS students but this is now rare.
  • Traditionally, the vast majority of our students
have gone straight to universities or colleges
following Year 12. This is now changing as
    universities seek students with additional
    education.
