Title: Research in the technical side of architecture

1
Research in the technical side of architecture
  • Maria BOSTENARU DAN
  • IUSS Pavia / ROSE

2
Overview
  • Aspects of architecture
  • Actors to co-operate with
  • Multi / Inter / Transdisciplinarity
  • Mobility experience
  • Disciplinary aspects along the mobility
  • Conclusions

3
Aspects
  • Architecture
  • design projects
  • theory, history restoration
  • urbanism
  • techique (economics)
  • design (artistic)

4
Co-operation
  • Architecture
  • theory, history restoration
  • urbanism
  • techique (economics)
  • photographers, archaeologists, writers
  • seismologists, sociologists
  • engineers (civil, industrial )

Multidisciplinarity
multidisciplinary approach a programmed
approach from the point of view of more
disciplines. The study object is regarded
separately by each discipline and so each
discipline draws out its own conclusions. Finally
the conclusion is compiled by the leader of the
research group.

6
Interdisciplinarity
interdisciplinary approach an approach where
the researchers looking to the study object have
been trained about the way of approach and the
vocabulary of the disciplines with which they
collaborate. The programme exists thus before the
approach to the problem. The result is an unique
conclusion, where the components originating from
a discipline or another cannot be distinguished
anymore.

Transdisciplinarity
transdisciplinary approach (not recommended) an
approach where the on in researcher has got
habits from different fields (through
supperposition through PhD or advanced studies of
different formations or through formation in
schools with transdisciplinary specific)

Mobility experience (I)
  • a first grant during the architecture and
urbanism studies at the architecture Institute
Ion Mincu in Romania, to fullfill the mobility
schedule of the JEP-9688/95 in the frame of the
TEMPUS programme for the academic year 1995-96 (7
months) at the Faculty of Architecture of the
    University of Karlsruhe (TH), Germany

9
Mobility experience (II)
  • a Marie Curie Host Fellowship of the European
Commission, within the frame IHP (Improving Human
Potential), Grant Category B20, contract number
    HPMT-CT-2001-00359, for a research training
project as integral part of the doctoral studies
at the University of Karlsruhe for a stay at the
European School for Advanced Studies in Reduction
of Seismic Risk at the University of Pavia, Italy

10
Mobility experience (III)
  • a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship of the
European Commission, within the frame of the
    Intra-European Fellowships, contract number
MEIF-CT-2005-009765, for a two years project to
be carried out at the European School for
Advanced Studies in Reduction of Seismic Risk at
    the University of Pavia, Italy

Conclusions
  • Definition of the profession of architect
  • like a sculptor (autonomous architecture)
  • like a moderator / intermediary between different
    fields (participative architecture)
  • the architect knows nothing about everything and
the engineer everything about nothing the
    systemist and the specialist
