Title: FunTech Program
1FunTech - Program
- Agenda
- AIESEC in short and its Energy Learning Network
(ELN) - FunTech Program
- FunTech and Formidlingsutvalget
Presentation by Anton Eliston AIESEC Norway
International ELN Drive team
2What is AIESEC?
- A continuously growing global network with over
90 countries, which aids high potential graduates
to discover and develop their potential. - A platform for organisations to connect with and
source truly global, diverse talent and national
talents. - Leading youth driven organisation in the world.
The AIESEC Difference
- Leadership experience
- Multifunctional skills
- Self-awareness
- Global and diverse mindset
- Effectiveness
3AIESEC ELN
Connecting young poeple to a diverse learning
platform
A platform where individuals can gain knowledge,
skills and a network to drive change in the
energy sector. The purpose is to bring together
diverse perspectives on energy questions relevant
to countries in both urban and rural communities.
Participating countries (16 countries)
Norway, Mexico, Italy, Qatar, Germany, U.A.E.,
Morocco, USA, Nigeria, Russia, Turkey, China,
Venezuela, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Switzerland
4FunTech Program
- FunTech is an intellectual endeavour and a great
adventure, where youth are put to the ultimate
test, showcasing their understanding of the
challenges facing energy technology by making
remote control cars that are powered by renewable
energy. - There are two categories
- Category 1 (intended for upper sec. school
students) - Category 2 (intended for university students)
- Concept
- Take a remote control car
- Install a renewable energy power source
- Then RACE IT!!!!!
5FunTech Program Goals
- Give students a chance to interact with
engineers, scientists and learn about career
opportunities. - Stimulate creative thinking through a hands-on
design project. - Help students to experience the satisfaction of
creating a working machine. - Excitement of entering in a competition.
6FunTech Program Background
- Renewable energy Technology has gained
importance A continued focus on low emission
technology needs medium term strategies to ensure
high qualified scientists and teachers in the
long run. - Recruitment of students to higher education in
science A study show that upper secondary
schools students do not find the curriculumn
interesting despite their interest in science
(that is science programs on tv, books on
science, science magazines ect.) Sjøberg and
Schreiner 2004 - Short term shortage of engineers Many companies
are currently looking abroad for qualified
engineers. - 50 of teachers in upper secondary school are
over 50 years old (ssb, 2006) In order to
motivate upper secondary school students, they
need younger positive role models.
7FunTech Program Background
FunTech is more than just winning a renewable
energy car race. It helps to teach principles
of renewable energy technology in an atmosphere
that is fun and exciting. Experience from
similar events in previous years demonstrates
that it meets its goals of stimulating interest
in new technology among students and encourages
them incorporate this area in their education,
consumer practices and career plans (source

Mentorship
- The four elements of FunTech
- Mentorship
- Applied science - Problem solving
- Competition
- Inspiration
8FunTech Benefits General
FunTech invites science students and
professionals to an adventure where showcasing
their understanding of energy technology and
science is at the core. Together they will mentor
particpants who take part to ensure that they
recieve the support necessary.
Bring scientists at different stages together
Similar events and competitions have shown that
students have gained an interest in renewable
energy technolgy (World Solar Challenge, Junior
Solar Sprint ect.)
Encourage students to further their studies in
science
Through working with energy technology, students
become more knowledgable of the short comings and
advantages of the technology
Promote sustainable energy technology
Students are encouraged to work in teams (two to
four students in one team). Here they will
experience how to lead and be in a team. In
addition, the mentors for the design class
(predominantly univeristy students) will learn
the principles of mentoring.
Team-, Leadership- and mentoring experiences
